No offense taken... I think that recently Jay needed a little support. Just doing my part to lift his spirits a bit.

Being not the most mechanically inclined I have just taken a break from removing my cam covers. Not as easy as I thought it would be. I'm really concerned about getting it back on correctly.

I'm going with the Ford Blue as well. I found this paint on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7981259302&category=33620

I haven't tested the color yet but it seems a little dark (just by looking at the top of the can)? I picked up another brand (Dupli-Color Engine Enamel)at a local Meijer store which also says "Ford Blue DE1601" but looks like it is the early light blue Ford color. It is high heat 500 degrees. Not sure which one I'm going to use.

It doesn't say anything about a primer on the directions. The primer would have to be high heat as well so I'm just going with several coats with the enamel. I'll post pics when completed.

Ohh BTW guys...MIdwest Auto Gear is located in Hartland WI., which is about 20 min from my house.
I went there and spoke with the owner personally..He's a great guy and very easy to work with.

If you any questions or need someone to "personally" check something out for you..let me know via this thread or a PM and I can drive over and attempt to get an answer for you.

Jeff

ps...you guys are right the old mustangs had red valve covers....now you got me thinking ...hmmm.. red may work better

Got my valve covers done...went with the Ford Blue. Used Dupli-Color Ford Blue DE1602 Engine Enamel (3 coats) and the Dupli-Color Gray Primer Engine Enamel for a base.

By the way, I got over the sticker and removed it this past weekend. It was fun while it lasted but it did seem to take away from the look I was after. I would like to find something else in RED to set it off a bit. Any ideas?

at least you have matching colors under the hood, would look funny with the blue c&l and red valve covers....

I agree...I would have had to do something with the C&L fittings if they weren't blue. They still don't match perfectly but are close enough for me. Here are some larger pictures of the engine bay (last 4 listed):
