Intake question: im a noob

Alright, the car is out of storage, I have a full tank of 89 with treatment in it.

I want to instal my C&L racer because...I am bored, but I have a tune for 89 gase mileage, 91 octane performance, and 93 performance.

I dont want to put the 89 tune in, so the question...can I install the intake with no tune just for the heck of it...or will it throw a light of somesort/not start.

Best to burn it off, siphon it out... I have no clue.

Also, if anyone you has the VMP package with the 88mm MAF..is that the black cylinder thing you get or is it the whole tube? I ordered the 88mm MAF i think but in the box got a 95mm MAF? this a mistake or what? or am I stupid?

Its seems it would be best to just put the 89 tune and burn it off and install the intake with it or just leave it off and wait till u get 93 in there. Is it really that hard to plug in the tuner and load the 89?

Well no, i dont think. BUT its 89 gas mileage tune, I want to burn it off/get it out without getting a **** load of miles.

Never tuned before.

Definitely do not install the CAI without a tune. The engine will run excessively lean, which can cause damage.
If all 3 tunes are designed for the CAI, then you can install the CAI and the 89 tune with the 89 gas. Do not install either the 91 or 93 tunes with the 89 gas, or the engine will ping and possibly cause damage.

Unfortunitely I did not get to this thread until after I installed it with no tune.

I installed the intake after I did the spoiler. I took it for a 2 mile drive around town and NOW...

Ok, car ran fine, then I parked it back in the drive way to take a look at the tuner, I went back and started the car, literally 50 seconds ago, and now there is an engine light.

When my lights are off, the radio is fine, but if I turn the parking/lights on the radio backlights turn off, and I cannot see what station I am listening to etc.

Is this normal? If I install the 89 tune will the resolve it...I am scared to even tune the car, I am rather a sally when it comes to crap like this.

Just load the 89 octane tune in it. Burn off that tank. Fill up the tank with 93 octane. Drive around until the tank is about half empty, than fill it up, and load the 93 octane tune. All is good. Now about the maf tube. The maf tube on the Racer is Silver and 95mm. VMP Tuning's 88mm maf tube is Black. I hope this helps.

OK, I have the black tube, and Emailed Justin, he said he swapped it; just kept the same box.

I loaded the 89 gas tune, all is well now. When it started, it said copying stock file or something of that sort..now, when I put the 93 octane tune in, do I need to put the stock tune in, then the 93, or just got straight from tune 3 to 1 (my order)

When switching from the 89 to the 93 tune, just select "Custom Tune", select "93 Tune". I believe it will then verify your stock tune and then upload the 93 tune. It's quicker than the original time you tuned going from stock to whatever as the stock tune is already saved on the tuner. It's ok to run a higher octane than the tune is set, but don't do the opposite! So yes, a good way is to run the 89 nearly empty, fill up with 93 leaving the 89 tune, run it nearly empty, fill up with 93 and upload the 93 tune right there at the pump and enjoy

I would go back to stock, and then load the next one. I switched from a 91 race C&L tune to a 91 race JLT tune, and got some bad noises just revving it up in the garage. I returned it to stock, then loaded the new tune, and no problems.

Might not happen with you, but hey, better safe than sorry.

No, you do not need to go back to stock. Just make sure all of the 89 is out of the system otherwise you could hear some slight knocking.

Sounds fantastic guys, the car is going under the knife saturday morning for some suspension work, I should have full 93 in after that (dealer is 90 miles away).
