So, I'm a jet engine/aircraft mech. toodle around with my cars and stuff, by no means a auto expert. Anyway finished up putting on a street heat intake today, car run's like butt now. Prior to this it was good, I put one piece on at a time to see if I would have any probs, started with a TB, then injectors and MAF, ran good, no idle probs, blah blah blah. G/F and daugther are out of town, so I decided to throw the intake on today. So i'm looking at two things that could be the problem. 1st, not sure if i stabbed the dizzy back in right, maybe a tooth off. How do you start from scratch to line it up right? 2nd..the x-over line for the fuel rails is really tight between the dizzy and lower manifold, anyone encounter this being pinched off before? any other thought, suggestions? BTW it will start, but you gotta keep your foot in it, but still runs like butt. and I don't have a timing light to check that out. Well, I'm done with it for the night, hopefully I can get it going early, then ride the Harley to the coast tommorow, just sipping cold one's now, while I baste in sorrow. Any help is appreciated, thanks and cheers

sounds like the old timing is off. did you mark it before taking it off?

you could do that, but risk the whole too much or too little timing and the engine will ping, knock, or even worse, start to detonate. just take a night off, enjoy your cold ones and in the morning, put the timing light to it and fix it. make sure you check your plug wires too. the smallest things do the most damage.

Huh...Just got back from the beach myself....York Beach Maine...Twas a sweet nite...Seen alot of bikes tonite, mostly customs...

Anyway....try this for resetting your timing...first i would loosen the dizzy bolt, start it up, give the dizzy a twist and see if either direction helps the prob...if not you can do the below to set it up...Good luck...

BTW...I work for Pratt&Whitney...I make what you work on...I repair and build the HPC modules...

Pull #1 plug....using your finger over the plug hole, turn the motor til it pisses air...look at your balancer...it should be a zero , or close, tweak it to zero..grab the distr and place it in the block, you want the rotor around 12:00 as you slide it in the block.... when you drop it in the rotor will rotate to approx 1:00...place your cap on, and see if the rotor is directly over your #1 plug wire...if so, you should be good to go...if not, lift the distr up an inch or so, grab the rotor and turn it what ever direction needed to line up #1 on your cap....your trying to grab the next tooth on the cam by doing this...you get the idea....

Hope it helps...????

I would check your timing first, then get some chemtool and spray around the upper and lower and see if it stumbles. Also do the same around vaccum hoses (where they connect. And the throttle body and throttle body adapter. And check your connections electrical and vaccum hoses. Also check and make sure the fuel rail bolt is tight and see if there is a leak around the injectors. Check for MIL light also.

So, couldn't leave it alone. 1st, thanks RIO and 17yrold. Started from zero, set it up then gave a twist, Good to Go, timing was wacked...well, I'm about 9 deep now so I'm gonna use better judgement and wait till the morning to give it a test drive. As much as I like tinkering with my stuff, I didn't want to spend the whole weekend working on my car, off to the coast on the Harley I ride!!! RIO, I work on("maintane") turboprops, C-130's/Allison t-56's in the AF, but I'm looking to seperate after 9yrs (wanna see my daughter more than 4/6/8/ mths a yr), if you got any leads with Pratt and Witney let me know, I'll have an A/P license in about 6 mths. Anyway, cool, anyone putting on a street heat with Q's give a holller...I'm experienced, Later
