Ok I've searched for a while and no one seems to have a similar issue. So here it goes, I'm at your mercy:
I was driving to work and my 87 GT stalled. I was certain it was the fuel pump so I replaced it with a Walbro 255. The car ran fine for a few days and stalled again. I followed some steps on the "no start check list" and found that the ignition coil was not sending spark, figured it was an intermittent problem. I replaced the ignition coil with an OEM Ford Motorcraft unit. The car still would not start and still didn't send any spark. I used a voltmeter to check the connector and found that I was getting power to the connector (12v) at Key On Engine Off.
BUT - It seems that I get power to the connector when it is NOT plugged into the coil (12.0V). But when I plug in the connector, it looks like I'm not getting any power. The reading off the meter when plugged in looked like .01 - .02.
I replaced the connected since some of the wiring looked damaged, but still had the no start issue and no spark from the coil. Still the same meter readings when plugged in or not.
I sat for a few minutes thinking with Key On Engine Off and i heard my fuel relay and fuel pump prime randomly (Note: it primes every time on Key on, as it should). I then thought to try to start the car and it ran beautifully.
Any ideas on where to start? I don't want to call a tow again. Could the ECU be sending a bad signal? Does anyone have access to this wiring diagram as I seem to only find anything for 1988 and newer. I also never find the exact connector wiring I am looking for.
Thanks in advance.
