Ok i was talking with me dad today, i've always been wanting to swap in 4.10s in my AOD GT, We are going to build a new motor for my car.

It wont be too big, cam, worked head, intake, TB, valvetrain and pistons etc.

My dad talked to his long time friend, he is a machinist, this guy is nothing less than a car god.

the guy told my dad if i put 4.10s with the setup, it will be slower in the 1/4th
He said i will top out before i hit the finish line, he suggested 3.73s
I was like "uhh" and my dad said that the guy said I would be suprised by how it would work.

So would the car top out before the line with 4.10s?

And on another topic, i think my rear end is bad, everytime i try and powerbrake or peel out etc its always the right tire that moves. So i jacked it up today and pushed the gas, both tires turned. So whats up here?

As far as the rearend goes, you need to rebuild your trac-loc. Since there is no weight on the tires when you have it up in the air, one tire isn't slipping more then the other.

As far as running out of rpms, it just depends on how fast you go. If you go fast enough to turn more then the 6250rpm limit on the stock ECU, then you won't see your max potential.

I dont think you will but that will depend on the rpm of motor and hp. If you are even at the top of the gear. I would go with the 4.10's for now. You would have more fun. And besides the 3.73's are cheaper so I'm sure if you did decide to go with the 4.10's you could sell them and get the 3.73's

4.10's in 1:1 or D with 26" tires will do about 113mph at 6000

4.10 in D with 27" tires will do about 117mph at 6000 rpms

and 4.10's with a 28" tire in D will do about 121.9 mph at 6000 rpms.

I'm not sure you will go that fast or if you plan on spinning it higher but i'm guessing (since you didn't give a combo or an idea of your plans and rpm range) that 4.10's will be fine and you can play with tire height to gain more mph if needed. And while your building this don't forget the torque converter and shift kit to go with it. you won't realize the true potential of your efforts until you have a good convetor in front of the AOD

it depends on how the motor is set up. stock cam, intake and heads will limit power to 5000rpms but different heads, cam and intake can turn upwards of 7000rpms depending on set up.

im running out of motor but didnt think i would ever see 12's with stock motor. now im going to switch to 28" tires and 100shot and try for 11's

Umm, my dad has a stock cammed car with 4.10s and traps 110 in the 1.4 and has not run out of steam. If you put an aftermarket cam in you will raise the power band, and want to rev more. Unless you keep the stock rev limiter, and plan to run 115 mph (without a combo, we cant say for sure) I dont see it being an issue!

I have 3.73s and will be going up to 4.10s soon!

He is right technically.

I have 3.73's and i pass through the traps right at redline. I have mostly bolt ons and i find myself running out of steam the final 100-200 feet of the track because i am near redline.

It all depends on the individual setup of each car. Can always swap in taller tires to make up for it.

like stated for a stock car they are great but when you mod the motor and it revs quicker I.E bigger cam and stuff and you go through the power band quicker you want lower gears........so you dont run out or gear to soon since 4.10s are higher you loose top end that is why with my combo i am going 3.55.....i have had 4.10's and they are awesome on a stock car...but when a new cam or a power adder is put on they max way to quick and you loose E.T.

4.10s are low gears. 2.73 and 3.08 are high gears

also, i would not only consider running out of rpm. i would consider gas mileage, increased rpm makes more wear and tear on the engine, and traction issues. the lower you go in gear, the harder it will be to keep the tires planted.
