Is it safe to use a pair of donuts as an affordable alternative for skinny front tires for an occasional trip to the drag strip?

I wouldnt think so but my only reasoning behind that is i think all donuts are speed rated really low, like 45 or 55 mph.

Speed rating on those things are very low, I think it could be Disastrous.

That was my fear since I would be hitting about 102 on them for a moment or two.
But I have seen others do this, maybe it was them Hondas running 56.85 through the traps but I could be wrong

A spare tire would never see 102mph. It would desinigrate and you'd be all over the track. Very stupid idea and I wouldn't advise it

I have also always heard donuts are rated for like 55 mph max. I wouldn't try it

Yeah...you couldn't try it anyway. No track would let you make passes with donuts. If they did they're insane and will probably be shut down within the next couple weeks.

102 for a second or two. Over 55 for a few more than a few seconds

Just because I hit mach 1 doesn't mean I didn't hit 400 MPH also.

Donuts,

I wonder if you used the spare wheel and a similer sized tire w/ a higher speed rating

Wasn't sarcasm. It was a perspective. He said:

"That was my fear since I would be hitting about 102 on them for a moment or two."

Even though you hit 102 you still hit every other MPH over 55 that the tire isn't rated for. So in correlation, if I hit Mach 1 I'm still hitting 400 MPH. You don't JUST hit Mach 1 without hitting every other MPH in between 0 and Mach 1.

Get it now?

I'll bet they would work fine. Speed ratings are applicable for sustained driving guys.

Anyone remember when dragsters went 150+ on bicycle tires?

In fact, I think it's a hell of an idea!

Please post video!

there was an article in 5.0 a few months ago with two cobras going head to head. I believee nitrous pete's setup was waffle wheels with slicks in the back and donuts up front. I think its fine. They are speed rated at 55 for sustained driving which includes turns etc. I think it will be fine. If a nitrous'd 03 cobra can do it yours can too.
