Is MSD worth it?? What kinda Power gains?

What about Performance Distributors stuff? Alot better throttle response, no breaking up above 5000 and plug and play to boot.
**Thats what I just put in,,a screamin demon ign. system !! They have the best looking plug wires Ive ever seen :nice:

The digital MSD 6 claims HP gains. My friends uncle swears by his MSD 6AL. He said he got better gas mileage, crisper throttle response, and he likes the plug in rev limiters. I'd say its a good invest to protect your motor. I want the digital 6 one probably better in the long run if you plan on going really coo-coo on the motor.

Does that system come with a new distributar?

I just installed my 6AL, and i noticed that starting the car when it is completely cold (like in the morning) iI have no proble, before it took a couple seconds of cranking to fire up. Not anymore. It seems to have less "fade" when it gets higher in the RPM range too. MSDs seem to be very sensitive to water and moisture (when they get wet, they no longer work, usually) so it's probably best to install it inside the car.

No it dosent come with the distributer. My friends uncle was so gun hoe about it he was telling me it should be one of my fist mods. This guy isnt a clown either he knows his 5.0's. Havent picked one up yet but I will when I get some spare change. Defintely money well spent.

MSD and a few other brands are a good mod. For near stock, it would be like the aluminum driveshaft, roller rockers, oil cooler, ect, maby not something that you really "need" or it may not make that much RWHP difference BUT it will make your car run better.

If your running a blower or spray, I would say it is a must. You can run the timing advanced and let the ignition system retard with boost or spray. :spray: The new MSD 7 series although expensive, has a lot of features. I might save to get that.

yeo 90mustang hit it on the head...at your stage of the game it might be more of a "treat" for your car. not much power, but a better running car.

with the MSD u are talking about, do u mean u can change the timing form lets say 12* to 10 without moving the distributor and stuff??

I just installed the MSD Blaster coil, MSD billet Dist. and the MSD Digital 6-Plus box and I will say this you can tell a difference. My motor is basically has basically stock heads, block, internals ect. I am not sure what kind of HP gain it is but I really can tell a difference. You feel the RPM's climb alot faster, the throttle is very crisp, and the motor runs smoother. Now does that make HP, I am not sure but for what I did get out of it but to me it was worth it. I spent $50.00 on the coil, $250.00 on the dist., and $300.00 for the Dig 6-plus, well worth it to me.
As far as the question on the timing being able to be retarded with the box, you can. On the top of the box is a bunch of selection switches that you choose different functions, one of them is a retard, two switches - one for degree's and one for dec. degree's. Now this retard amount only goes into effect when a 12v source is sent to a certain wire. Basically they set it up for use with nitrous, which I have set up for mine and it works perfect. Amazing little unit, expensive yes but remember you get what you pay for. :D
