Is my 90K 99GT too old for a new H pipe?

I've got a 99GT with 90K miles on it. Engine runs great since I've owned it for the last 45K miles. It's a daily driver that will probably never see track time. II've kept it mostly stock except for Steeda pulleys, KB sub frame connectors, MM CC Plates, and MRT Street suspension kit. I just installed Katzkin seat covers and it cost a lot less than I thought it would. I've been looking at the MRT H pipe w/ cats since they released them. My car has 6 cats and I figured it would be a good performance and sound improvement.

My question is: is 90K too old to start changing out the mid pipe? By that I mean... with that mileage, am I asking for trouble by changing something that has been running perfectly for so long? I worry that if I install a new H pipe, the computer's going to freak out and the car will run like crap and I'll wish I didn't start messing with the engine. Or is this a no-brainer and there's little risk in changing the exhaust system?

It's a great mod. It shouldn't be a problem if you get the catted H. But if I was you, I would go with an Xpipe. 90k is no problem for modification, unless you're talking about adding a power adder. But even then, as long as you don't get crazy with the boost and get a good tune, you still should be good. So any exhaust upgrade shouldn't be a problem or cause your car to act weird....Do it.

nope its not too late, are you planning on getting a O/R midpipe you will need MIL eliminators for the rear O2 sensors and you will notice a nice difference in the power gain

Hpipe for the win. Only drawback is the only ones are the MRt and Mac's. Mac bend to easily and MRT is kinda pricey. hence why I got an x now.
As for mileage, sounds like motor is ready to live a lil, join the modding bandwagon, everyone is doing it.

There are alot of people on here who beat the everliving crap out of their motors with well over 100k and they keep on modding them.

Go for it...

My 2000 has 95k on it, and Im just starting to mod it.

Thanks all... for the great replies! That's just what I needed.

My 2nd to last modding experience didn't turn out so well... after my shock/spring/cc plate install the car now has a weird pop sound when turning right or left. After 2 shops and a few hundred $ spent on diagnosis and bushing replacement I'm giving up on locating that noise. But then my seats turned out great... so I figured I'd try exhaust Totally different and unrelated areas of the car... but it still changes your confidence you know.

Change it, it's never too old to mod especially when your changing out a restrictive part for a better flowing part. MRT pipe would be nice, I personally would stay away from MAC.

Personally the best sounding X pipe ive heard is the bassani. I would try and get a catted bassani X pipe if I were you

Mid pipes are one of the easiest things to change out. I have had a Prochamber for 3 or 4 years and I freeking love it.

strange poping sound huh? poly bushings by any chance? You did put the isolators on the springs right?

H > prochamber > X pipe

I can say that I've had all of them so NAH.

Go for it! Mileage shouldn't be a factor at all for a midpipe...heck I'm putting on a Mongoose kit and my car is about to roll 100k miles, it's all in how you treat the car!

www.mustangexhausts.com listen there and find what you want... i have a prochamber and flowmasters and love the sound... its a bit loud but sounds good...

I've asked this in a bunch of threads over the last year or so and still haven't narrowed it down on my car. Seems a lot of folks have it for different reasons. Popping noise started for me after springs/CC plate install. Springs have poly isolators. Got new outer tie rods and new rack bushings (poly this time) and still makes the noise when the weight shifts in the car... alternating right and left sides. Could be sway bar or lower control arm bushings but I've kind of given up on it for now... don't feel like paying for another alignment and still have this same problem.

A midpipe shouldnt cause any huge glitches with your computer or anything. I personally prefer h pipes and everyone says the mrt is top notch quality. If the price doesnt bother you id get it.

Also I know this is kind of off topic but how do you like the seat covers? Im not a big fan of the original ghetto leather. Also how much did it wind up costing you and was it really hard to install?

Love the Katzkin seat covers! I had cloth seats in mine and they were looking pretty nasty.

I did it myself and it wasn't difficult... just really tedious and time consuming. I think it took me about 10 hours total. There's about 80-100 hog rings that you have to cut off to get the old seat covers off. My foam was in decent shape except for one rip in the driver seat. But once the new covers are on it pulls everything together anyway so I didn't bother to repair it. One great tip that saved me from a lot of pain was using plastic zip ties instead of hog rings. ~$720 including shipping. They sent me color samples before I ordered... and I went with black. Should have gone with Dark Graphite to match the faded black interior perfectly (just a shade lighter than Black) but the only one who notices is me.

+1 The Bassani IS the best sounding X pipe and the quality is
wonderful too.I didn't think twice when I got my Bassani X pipe!
