Ok guys my mods are as listed below, at Carlisle this past June I pulled only 290RWHP on a Dynojet 107 degrees and direct sunlight and at 10:1 A/F ratio, but I've clobbered quite a few Mustangs (different gens) various other cars such as new twin turbo 3 series BMW and a WRX here n there....here's the weird part on the highway if I set the cruise control at 60mph I'll get 33mpg and I've confirmed this with long road trips. Is my car a abnormal one or is the 3v with VCT the best kept secret by Ford?

Maybe the other people need to invest in the driver mod.

not a freak at all. I get over 30 on the highway as well. But that 10:1 afr is scary for a na car. Are u sure you have that right? You should be between 12.8-13.2

Yeh Dark is right 10 anything on your A/F is not good you should be right around mid 12's to low 13's ...hmm check your tune !

No the 10 is right, my tune story is complicated basically I had to play around with it the original guy (rhymes with Shmemolet) screwed me, the second guy is great but he moved 1,800 miles away and was not too familiar with the CAI I had so his tune pinged a bit up top so I just richened the mixture on the SCT to full, I left it like that due to we had a few gas stations with bad 93 octane when the gas priced skyrocketed.

Nope not a freak. Mine threw down 287rwhp & 302 rwtrq on a day that was hotter then hell! Only mods, that mattered for the Dyno, are a C&L intake and Borla Mufflers.

I'd get that AF checked out and the tune reworked. That's not right for a NA car.

I believe it...best i've gotten was 31.0 mpg on fill up. Computer read 31.9 and that was doing 65-70 going through a few hill on our road trip. I have no idea what my car makes on a dyno though.

I've gotten 30+ mpg going ~60 mph for about 30 miles. Never driven that speed for anything longer though. I have gotten 28 MPG crusing at 75-80 over the course of 300 miles.

yup, I just drove 300 miles yesterday and averaged 32mpg. That was at about 80mph most of the time. I have a couple theories.

1) This could be due to the methodology the EPA uses to rate fuel efficiancy, and all cars are capable of getting much better than advertised MPG. This is the first car I have driven with the computer that tells you the MPG. Perhaps a car rated at 30MPG hwy, is then able to get something like 50MPG in some situations, just as my car rated at 23MPG is able to get 30MPG in some situations.

2) I live in Denver and put all of my hwy miles in at around one mile altitude. The air is thinner up here, so perhaps there is less wind resistance? If this is true, then all cars would get better MPG in Denver.

Who knows? But I was thrilled to get such high MPG numbers. They were backed up when I filled my tank, so I know the computer is working correctly.

Fuel Economy Test Schedules

You can see, even the hwy test has a lot of time below 50mph, (i.e. fourth gear in higher RPMs) and some accelerating. If your just stuck there at 70mph for an hour, you are going to do better than the EPA estimate. I think the conclusion here is that all cars are going to perform better than EPA estimates in ideal conditions. (70mph, no acceleration, for long period of time)

Actually, 50-55 MPH is about perfect for our cars. The reason why most of us are seeing better gas mileage is the intakes, tunes, and various other mods. Most of the mods we do to our cars make it breathe better, which helps fuel economy.

I asked my dealer about these MPG claims and why I am not getting these figures. I won't repeat what he said. Let's just say he wasn't optimistic that it can be done.
I'd like some specifics about tunes, intakes, etc. that can be used without voiding the warranty to accomplish this.

It all depends on your dealer. Anything you do could void your warranty. Intake and tune are going to be the biggest contributors. Add some underdrive pullies in, and you'll be seeing the type of mileage we're seeing. Intake, tune, and UDPs are all easily reversible, so if you had to take your car in, you could remove them.
