After getting over the last trauma of spilling coolant and a thrown belt at my last race outing, I finally had a chance to drive the GT again yesterday. Well, I got as far as work when the engine temp started climbing beyond the normal range (it was 225F when I pulled into my parking spot). The long story short is that the motor on the Mark VIII electric fan died.

The good news is that it's under warranty, so I get a new one for free. The bad news is that I have to trim it down to get it to fit in its rather cramped quarters. So is it just dumb luck, or does my car need to go through some type of special ritual to cure it of its woes?

BTW - the fan shroud has to be trimmed so much that the blade almost touches the radiator. Is it possible that the motor being that close to a heat source caused it to burn out? Also, I thought these Mark VIII fans could be rebuilt, but the original source for the fan said this one couldn't be rebuilt. What gives?

off topic: David...your 450+ rwhp 5.0 only ran a half second faster than a Mach 1 stock? What's up w/ that? Shouldn't 450+ rwhp be like high 11's, low 12's? I'm not critsizing, just kinda wondering how that happened.

If you look at his trap speed it's good for low 11's. Looks like he's got taction problems.

Dave, I'd ditch the MkVIII and out a stock clutch fan and shroud back on. The blower belt is most likely what's killing your fitment. At that power level a stock fan isn't hurting you very much percentage wise.

I wish I could, but there just isn't any room for the stock fan. The front end of the car was slightly damaged by the previous owner, pushing the radiator support in. I couldn't see this when I bought the car, it was only clear when the stock radiator came out. So I had a body shop bend it back into reasonable shape, but it's still a tight fit. So electric fan it will be, and I'll be sticking with the MkVIII since it is a free replacement.

It ain't cursed, its just a mustang, and you are the typical mustang owner lol. Me included. My OD band on the AOD took a dump today, and I am low on funds....but I'm gonna do a T5 conversion anyways. If I was driving a toyota i would be blowing 1500 on a rebuild. Instead Im gonna lie down my back under the car in my garage and do it myself...gotta love stangs.

from what i sse you dont have a curse. the FIRST NIGHT i got my car my moms friend was driving it because his dealer plate was on the car. we took a wrond exit off of 91 and were going aroud an on ramp and the car decides to whip around on us fo no reasone at all(we were in 3rd gear at 1500 rpms)... oh but dont worry the JERSEY barrier stopped us. then we had to worry about facing the wrong way on an onramp to the highway, also not fun. so my moms friend and myself spent the next two weeks putting in a radiator support when i shiuld have been doing doughnuts in my high school paring lot.

then a month later a friend of myne says i am blocking him so i go to move my car and i hear a stupid cavalier backing up, while my buddy is walking between the two cars, so my dumbass friend backs into my car and almost kills my other friend in the process. but i got a 2.5 inch cowl hood out of it! and the other friend walked away with bruised knees.

another couple of weeks passes and another friend of myne decieds to back full force into my car with his full size E150 van, my car was pushed about 10 feet back and the car was in gear which caused my clutch to star slipping severly.

i think its safe to say my car is cursed. cant wait to see what happenes this summer!
