I just bought a 2001 bullitt about a month ago. The car came with a MAC before throttle body CAI. I noticed that the screen normally before the MAF is missing. Ialso read in this months Mustangs and fast fords that if the screen is missing that it can lean out the car and mess up the A/F ratio. I just purchased a Densecharger with a 95mm proM MAF and was wondering:

1. Should I purchase a screen to replace the one that is missing, I do not want to damage this engine.

2. Should I be concerned with leaning out the A/F ratio while missing the screen.

3. At what point shoud I look into larger say 24# injectors, or will 19# be sufficient.

I know there is probably 1000 guys/girls missing the screen, but there are probably at least that many torching pistons too.....Please help.

I have the K&N FIPK2 and according to the instruction it's not needed. I had it like that for a few thousand miles with no problem

The purpose of the screen is to provide a nice smooth flow across the MAF. It also gives a little restriction. It has been said to lean a tad, but I would not worry about in an na application. that article was written about a blown car, I believe.

Taking out the screen infront of the MAF is not a very wise thing to do. If 10 people take it out you will hear ten different results. It is there to smooth the airflow out across the MAF and does not pose a significant restriction. I have been working for a local tuner for a couple of months and every car that has come in blown or not without a screen infront of the maf has had been not only a pain in the arse to tune but losing power because of it.

Leave it in.

As stated before most of everyone has removed the screen, but then again every vehicle will respond differently. Just go get your Bullitt dynoed with wideband capability and do a before and after to see how your car responds A/F wise by removing it. A dyno only runs about 60-70 bucks for three pulls with wideband. That will prove more useful then some of the mods you might waste money on later, plus you will have a baseline dyno for your car. The article in MM&FF was about cheap mods that work on the Mach1 by the way.

ive taken mine out, and i have the densecharger intake in my bullitt as well. to me there was no difference at all. will it make you run leaner? possibly, but i have no info to back that up. but even if it does run leaner, i doubt that its enough to cause detonation, or severe detonation that would cause you to grenade your engine. email John DeMolett, his email is on the densecharger website. im almost positive he will get back to you very quickly with his opinion on it, and his customer service is amazing.

p.s have you been to the bullitt web site? www.imboc.com. its a bullitt registry and an awsome sight. make sure to get there if you havent and sign up and register your bullitt!
