To remove the trim panel around the gauges(the one that houses the light switches) you have to take the 2 screws out of the top, by the windshield. Then you need to take the 3 bolts out of the bottom dash trim pannel(the area that would be above your knees when in the drivers seat) and with them removed, pull gently(there are 2 clips on the top part). With that removed, you'll see 2 more bolts holding the dash section around the gauges. Just take them out, pull it out and disconnect the wires going to the switches. You might have to remove the colum trim pieces but I can't remember. Hope this helps, I was trying to think of the pieces you were talking about.
