I was told on another forum that my Calypso Green convertible fox body in untouched condition was a more desirable Mustang than the rest. Is there something special about this car?

Calypso is an unusual, and unusually good looking, color to have on a fox, and not that common.

I just picked it up Friday for a sweet price. It may be for sale at the right price, not sure yet and yes, it's got an AOD. In fact, that's one of the reasons I bought it. My original plan was to (and nobody is gonna like this) pull the 5.0/AOD combo, ECU and harness and transplant that into this..........................

There's a year of DMV back fees due + sales tax and insurance which will amount to a few hundred dollars. Since I won't get to my '54 project for about a year, I'll probably pay the fees and drive the Mustang through the summer before stripping it down. Of course, if the right offer comes along, I may sell it. I'll just have to wait and see.

Depends. Love is in the eyes of the beholder. It's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. How shredded is the interior? There are better options for engine swapping an old car. 5.0 engines aren't particularly powerful. When I frequented the Turkey Rod Run, there were always a couple of venders (junkyards with 5 combos on a flatbed) offering swap kits. You could get a complete LT1 or LS1 with transmission, ECU and harness for around $1500 to $2000.

Question: why did you come here asking about the desirability of a stock, apparently unmolested 5.0 mustang convertible only to state that you want to gut it for a transplant into a nifty fifty-four leaving said vert to suffer a scrappers death?
These things are getting hard to find in usable condition.
Why not find a engine/trans and an aftermarket harness that would make the swap simple and less messy.

He probably got the car for the price of the parts you listed, and just stumbled on someone that said, "dont yank apart that car, its special..." Came here to verify that before yanking apart a "special" car.

Personally I'd sell the car whole and buy a Ford Explorer engine for $300 and your trans of choice. Chances are you are doing a carb/custom efi setup anyway, so most of the mustang stuff is useless.

Cam swap and explorer 5.0 > fox 5.0 hands down when strictly speaking a stock engine. Short block is the same and for put a better head/intake setup on the explorer. Given the weight of your car, I'd swap in a 86-88 mustang HO cam into the short block, run the gt40p or gt40 heads and intake and run an MS3 keeping the modern distributorless setup. Probably still be cheaper than what to have into that mustang plus parts you'll need after. If you go carb....even easier.

Clean the fox up and sell it for a profit and fund the rest of your project.

That AOD won't last long pushing your heavy '54 around anyway. Better options out there

on a faded vert, its a cool factor not add money to the price factor. that said, sell it and buy the parts you want. Drive it to maaco and have them freshen up the paint and it might bring 3k or 4k if it's nice.
