I just got my car about 3 days ago and its been raining here since..

The car has a big cam in it, in my own opinion too big for the other mods it has (BBK shorties, 1.6s, UD pullies, full exhaust w/2 chamber flows, etc.). When I start it up in the morning I have to keep the RPMs up a little or else it will stall. But after 3-4 minutes or so it holds an idle fine. Every once in a while when I first start it up it also bogs and it makes a popping/clunking sound which sounds like is coming from around the header/cat area. But it goes away after its warmed up. Is this because of the rain/humidity, what's happening here? Is there anything I can do about this?

probably just because of the big cam and the car being cold. also you could check all your plugs and wires, and cap and rotor. replace them if necessary.

does the car shake a lot when at a cold idle, i have a carbed cammed engine and it shakes at idle unless i adjust the idle screw, no big deal, check your timing though with a timing light.

Yeah, it shakes at a cold idle. My friend who had it before me said he retarded the timing for a little more lump in the lope.. so I'm guessing it will be gravy if I put it back to a less radical setting.

My car would bogg at cold start up and bounce up and down for a half a minute. Pretty normal for a cammed car. I don't know why you're getting intake backfire though.

Is this a carbed car, speed density or mass air car ? If it's carbed, there are numerous choke adjustments. If it's speed density, well, maybe some of the speed density guys will speak up. I've driven several SD cars that did this. If it's mass air, check the sensors that sense cold air intake and water temp. Plugs are a good idea if they have some age / miles on them. Maybe a general tune up ?
