I ordered a gt on 6/30. I was told that I would have the car in november. This was the only dealer within reasonable driving distance that would give me x-plan. Two other dealers wouldn't give me the time of day when I wanted to order a car--not on x-plan. This is a small dealer who told me they didn't have great alocation. They are highly respected, unlike two other dealers close by. One dealer advertised "x-plan buyers welcome" then wouldn't let me oder the car. I have been to four other dealerships in the last three weeks, no one has a gt on their lot, all v6's. I am not sweating this, because I am only going to store the car for the winter, so November might as well have been december or even january. I was happy to be able to get x-plan, but now they aren't giving me a build date, telling me they just got their allocations. The said they don't get a big allocation due to the fact they don't sell a lot of mustangs in the winter (I'm in Maine). I should say that no other dealers would take x-plan. I was amazed that I wanted to order a car before this, one guy didn't call me back, after taking all my information, another dealer told ME to call back in couple of months! Again, I am just going to put this car away, so I'm only putting more away for the down payment, but I am getting concerned. At this point I don't know if I should start calling some of the boston or new hampshire dealers. I must say, as an aside, I'm really shocked at the poor customer service on the mustang. Truly, you think that with their stock in the toilet, they would be all over someone who wants to buy a car.
Any input would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear that you're having issues with the Ford dealers up there in Maine. Unfortunately what you're experiencing is not uncommon with some dealers. Remember that though it says Ford on the sign they're not owned by Ford and don't always seem as concerned that they're putting the Ford motor company in a bad light.

Though it might be further away you may want to consider using the Ford web site to try and locate a car in another area that meets your needs, calling that dealer, and trying to arrange a long distance purchase using your X-plan pin. Yes its a bit inconvenient but you may actually get a better deal than what you'd get from the local dealer.

I had to wait four months and others had to wait longer, I wouldn't sweat it yet. What you need to do now is get a copy of your VOC and DORA from your dealer. (Vehicle Order Confirmation and Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement)

Martimus hit it on the nose. Ford makes their money when they sell their vehicles to the dealerships. Their stock is in the toilet because they don't make money, they lose billions each year due to too much company. They don't have the market share they had before and they have way too many plants and labor and healthcare costs can't compete with the Asians.

As for your dealer, you should find out if they're a Select Dealer or a Contact Dealer. And as Pulkthug said, get your VOC and DORA.
