Issue with E-Brake freezing up?

Does anyone with a 05, 06 have this issue? I see a TSB for this. Did you have to replace the cable or did you oil them?

Its a VERY common problem. TOO common infact. I don't know if anyone has came up with a perminent solution yet. But I have just stopped using my e-brake when it gets below 30 degrees.

Brought mine in twice...


keep f/n up.... So, gone, history... no more problems

Got some Wal-Mart special wheel blocks in trunk to use if I need 'em...

Mine is '07 built after clean date for new cables. I had it freeze up on me. Replaced cables with SAME part. I don't use it any more.

holy ****... I guess ill try to avoid using the ebreak that much... i'll probably change the cables before next winter... dont feel like spending $100 on some dumb cables

Same info as most above, I stopped using it in the cold weather, I refuse to pay the dealer to install parts that they won't guarantee will cure the problem or stand behind.
Kind of a shame though, the first two winters I owned the car there was no problem.

The issue is only with 2005 and 2006 models

I have an 07 and my e-brake does freeze up. Could be something they changes halfway through the model year, mine is an early 07. I have resorted to not using the e-brake in winter, but it is annoying. One of these days I am going to take a look at the lines and see if there is something I can jimmy-jack in there to solve the problem.

I had mine freeze up when it was -10 degrees Celsius in 2007. That was with my 05 Mustang GT and they were replaced. Since then I use my parking brake every day and have not had any issues. I have been driving my car where it has been -40 and the car has been parked in deep snow with the parking brake.

I am not sure what the exact cause of the problem is, but from reading several forums, it seems like there is a seal, I am guessing where the brake cable comes through the chassis. That seal breaks down very quickly (1-2 years) and then you get water pooling up around the cable. When the temp drops below freezing that water will freeze and not allow the cable to move. So, you may have a situation where the seal is bad, but no water is around the cable, and you wont have a problem.

I am really just guessing on this. I have not actually checked to see what my e-brake cable looks like where it exits the chassis.
