I’m actually taking a couple days of quarantine time (formally known as vacation time) just to get a couple days off!

Another excellent steak night last night! We let these soak in kiwi for a couple of hours. Turned out really good, but the pineapple was better. Neither left a fruit taste.

I know the plate looks funny. Get over it!

On a side note. My sidekick decided to BBQ plastic bag the other day when nobody was looking. It was half in the grill and half out. I'm not so worried about the grill, but it dripped all over the concrete on the back porch where the grill is. Anybody know a way to get plastic to come up? The concrete is textured with a cool coat stuff to cut down on heat.

Next up, mix 1/2 cup of your favorite steak/bbq sauce and 2 shots of tequila. Marinate them in that for a few hours and see how that comes out.
I do a 3 lb. pork loin in the slow cooker with a mix like that, but more sauce and add chipotle tobasco, too. It always comes out very good!

I'm starting to freshen up my 13-year-old grill here. My dad originally bought the grill back in 2007 and when I moved into my first house in 2013, he gave me that grill (he had another one already). It's never had a thorough cleaning nor has had anything replaced so I figured it's time. The igniter hasn't worked in a couple years, the burner shields (or "flavorizer bar" as Weber calls them) have rusted through, the grates are getting rusty...just time for a rehab.

I've bought a new regulator, igniter module, burner assembly, and flavorizer bar set to go in the grill. I'm waiting on the bars to arrive but everything else has come in. I've had a set of grates on-hand as backup but never changed them out. I started taking things apart yesterday and brushing the sides of the firebox with a wire brush...I'll need to get another one of those too.

At the start:

Took the bars out:

After a little bit of brushing...not much...

Still got a ways to go with cleaning it out; first have to pull the burners out and the igniter to really get down in there.

Sounds like you're replacing the whole grill, without actually replacing the whole grill?

Obviously the grill body has sentimental value!

Actually looks like a decent grill. Nice thick walls. I've had my grill since 2006. I've never cleaned the inside of it. That's where the special flavor is at.

Yeah, it does seem odd, I know. I got the parts for cheaper than a new grill of the same size would've cost though. And it just gives me something to do. LOL.

Well hell......or hail I guess I should say.

A lot of the green you see in the picture are leaves from the trees located above the garden.

My garden of superhots was nearly destroyed today by a hailstorm that hit while I was at work.

I MIGHT be able to salvage a couple of the purple ghorpians (heat level at about ghost chili).

The Bhutlahs are shredded, purple ghost are too. I can’t even find remnants of my white ghosts.

Some of the tamer stuff like chocolate habaneros seemed a little beat up, but ok.

I can buy live plants to replace the killed ones, but they cost ten bucks each.........

Maybe I’ll just grow watermelons.......

I hear ya there. I like not having to wait for the coals to get hot, but I prefer charcoal if I'm the one doing the cooking. My father-in-law gave me a really nice gas grill a few years back for Christmas. It's really nice, but its indirect heat so you dont get any grill marks. I can go in to that in more detail if anyone is interested.

Few years ago, trashed the gas grilling, it just pain lacks in the task department. CharCoal rules.... If you want a fast hot char coal fire pick up one of these.

2 pieces of news paper, load the coal, light, 30min tops does not get any easier than that.
ready to cook.

20 min

Not really, most of the superhots were stripped to stems or completely broken from their roots.

I’ll probably get a couple of the bhutlahs and a couple of the white ghost live plants when they come available again. I can blow another $40 I guess.

Dang ....appears the igniter worked, guessing the flavorizer bar was plugged ?

Slight update on my destroyed superhots.

I was cleaning up the mess today and found two possible saves and one definite save. I planted four of each of these plants as a sacrifice to the god of hail.

First the possibles. First shot is the remaining white ghost chili......maybe that one leaf will pull it through? We’ll see.

Next is a purple ghost, I know i’m on a wing of a prayer on this one, but i’ll see what it does over the next couple weeks.

Then, shockingly, I found this Bhutlah buried under tree leaves! I thought all four had gone off to their great beyond. I really believe this fella will make it and provide me with peppers in the 2.5 Million scoville scale. Excellent .

I went live plant shopping today and got some odds and ends for the garden.

I need to find some real san marzano tomato plants. They’re the best for making sauces.
