Everyone always told me these transmissions have problems shifting when your past 5k rpms, and its true. I didnt want to belive it, but these transmissions do not want to shift. Once you get past 5k, its like you have to slam it into gear, even the 3rd to 4th shift is tough. I broke this transmission in for 500 miles, Ive changed the fluid many times. Im going to have the trans rebuilt by MMR and see what happens.

Dont buy TKO's.

3550s are no different. I've had days at the track where i was stranded at the end of the quarter because it wouldn't go back into gear. Sometimes when i drive it hard (like at the track) i'll go to hit 3rd and it's like i'm hitting between gears or something and it just won't go in gear. I've actually lost a couple races and looked like a dumbass who can't shift because of this.


Once this trany's days are over, i'm either getting a Gforce T5 or a T56.

Exactly, Im missing gears that I shouldnt be, because the transmission wont go into gear and it makes me look like an idiot.

I had the same problem with my 3550 in my '83. You could NOT powershift that tranny! I even had it rebuilt and put cast iron shift forks in. No help. Oh well.

Hmmm,any chance of putting that demolished T-5 back together.j/k

Wonder why there so hard to shift?Did you contact the company that makes them to see what they say?
