I would think 250lbs for options would be way, way high. I can't see there being more than a 60-70lb difference between the most basic of base 5-speed cars, to a fully optioned automatic. There's just no way there are 250lbs worth of options to be had.

I can tell you with full certanty there is not a 100lb difference between a 5-speed and an AODE. We're talking 30lbs at the most.

The 3803 was with me, 3/4 tank of fuel, spare and jack in the car, stock iron heads, etc. The only weight reduction was the offroad X pipe and aluminum driveshaft. This was at E-town on its scales at the track.

I suggest you put the car on a scale yourself and see where it comes in at. You can get these 'verts into the 3200lb range without driver with aluminum heads, drag wheels, tubular K member, etc. They can be even lighter with no PS or AC, removed sound deadening, etc. I've weighed my car so many times its hard for me to remember what I had removed, or what I had in the car for all of the different weights. It was around 3510lbs without me for the longest time. I've had it as light as 3400lbs with me in it though.

Ok. good point. Additionally we were INCORRECTLY adding gas when it was already added under curb weight by definition. So I will agree with at least 30# for the Auto for 3630# and take it to 180# and as you will see below, I am correct.

(Not Standard) on my car:
17" rims with 245 size tires (I had them) 40#?
A/C 40-45#
Cruise and supporting components 7#?
Body moldings 4#?
remote keyless entry 7#?
illuminated entry 1#?
Leather Seats (leather over top of cloth basically) 25#?
Leather Steering wheel 1#?
Floor Mats 4#
Cassette, CD, multi-cd, amplifier and supporting components..12#
rear defroster and supporting components 5#?
ABS 12##?
Automatic 30#?
Lockup tq converter (part of trans but optional) #?
3.27's na
3.08's na
Block heater ?
4 drivers seat adjustments ?
-------------
I come in at 3601#

Just for reference for those of you weighing with less than a full tank..
15 gallons of gas weighs 95#

Final numbers?:

In case you just tuned in, here's a summary of findings:

1. Definition CURB Weight - "The weight of a fueled automobile with standard equipment but without cargo or passengers." So this means WITH fuel but NO OPTIONS.
2. The CURB weight for a STOCK 94/95 vert is 3450#. Options appear to add up 180# on the car.
3. Maximum weight for a STOCK 5speed vert should be right around 3600# and maybe a bit over that.
4. Maximum weight for a STOCK Auto vert should be right around 3630#.
5. I have 100# of something yet to be determined in my car.

Just curious, but where are you getting these weights from? Have you actually weighed these components individually, or are you making an educated guess?

Mine weighed in at 36XX ( low 600's) with me in it I was 200 at the time and that was w/ the 351 block and 4 point cage. No weight reduction at all, even the dog bone was on then.

Sure. I looked up wheel and tire size weights and weighed my tires. leather adds a lot of weight but it was a guess. I've weighed speakers and cd components, etc., I personally weighed my ac, and things like the vert top motor, cats, etc.. but some of that is not options.

So you weigh 200#, have a heavier block and a roll cage and you are telling me your car weighs less than the curb weight listed buy nearly all my sources? EDIT- NM you have a coupe, lol.

So did you weigh a set of factory 16" wheels and tires, then weight your 17" wheels and tires? Looking up the weights on one, then weighing only your tires and guessing the weight of the wheels really doesn’t confirm anything. I’d say 10lbs/wheel sounds excessive.

I would guess that an entire leather upholstery couldn't weigh more than about 3-4lbs. Now, I could see a little more weight added with lumbar/power seat set ups if that's what you mean. But the upholstery alone is no where near 25lbs difference between cloth and leather.

You say you've weighed speakers and cd components...is that from the high end model, or the standard model? Are you taking into account the difference in weight between the two, or are you just adding the entire weight of premium components on top of the weight of the base car?

The Vert Top motor, cats, etc would be the same for either car, so I really can't see how that would make a difference?

I know you're trying hard here, but I see a lot of speculation you're trying to pass off as solid fact here. It seems in most cases you’re taking the total weight of the components rather than the differences in weight between the two. Unless you can find a completely stripped GT to weight in comparison to a fully loaded model, then weighing them on the same scale during the same occasion, you posting your speculation on their weights is no less a guess than any of us posting ours.

Ah..NM 351 you have a coupe I think.

"So did you weigh a set of factory 16" wheels and tires, then weight your 17" wheels and tires? Looking up the weights on one, then weighing only your tires and guessing the weight
of the wheels really doesn’t confirm anything. I’d say 10lbs/wheel sounds excessive.

Not excessive at all. You are not including larger tire sizes. Look up the difference in weights in tires alone between 225's and 245's. Each tire is 20mm wider or equivalent of 20 dimes. Thats alot more weight not including upgraded rims from 16-17" x 4. So those figures stay. I am not going to pick it apart but..Just one example without the rims:

"I called up asking for the tire weight of my preferred tire of each size and the wider BGF's were an extra 4pounds per corner based on a larger tire and a different compound. Another 16 pounds of rotating mass kinda defeats the idea of running the light FD wheels in the first place as I'm running them more for the weight savings than the extra traction from a wider wheel."

So add 3# per rim only and that's another 12 and puts it at 28#..still close enough as I did not include several options in MY cars weight anyway.

I would guess that an entire leather upholstery couldn't weigh more than about 3-4lbs.
3-4# is waay off lol. Leather is put over top of cloth but even if it were half at 12# the numbers are very close to my figures. Here's confirmation:

Here's the weight for a box of seat covers for a corolla for example:

# Every package includes Seat Leather Covers for driver seat, passenger seat, front row seat, real row seat, headrest, armrest
# 2 Row model, box dimension 22x26x13 & weight 25lbs

Please let's not argue the box weight, lol. and even at half that, I'm close enough as I didn't add other options.

The Vert Top motor, cats, etc would be the same for either car, so I really can't see how that would make a difference?

Exactly. But I did not include those in the options as I stated earlier.

You say you've weighed speakers and cd components...is that from the high end model, or the standard model? Are you taking into account the difference in weight between the two, or are you just adding the entire weight of premium components on top of the weight of the base car?

No, you are a little off on this part. Take a look again what I listed as "options." They are all options meaning over and above "standard" features.

know you're trying hard here, but I see a lot of speculation you're trying to pass off as solid fact here. It seems in most cases you’re taking the total weight of the components rather than the differences in weight between the two. I appreciate this expansion but please see the above analysis and re-check my options. Thanks!

After addressing your questions I am satisfied that these weights are more than close enuf and justifiable based on the observations we have come to. So I am not going to go back and forth on it. I am kinda.. on the topic.

According to what I've found, a 225/55/16 and a 245/45/17 are within one pound of one and other (approx 26lbs). Yes, you're getting 10mm more width with the 245, but you're also losing a full inch of side wall on each side.

As far as rim weights goes, since neither one of us can produce accurate weights for the factory 16x7.5 base 5-spoke wheel and the 17x8 factory Tri-Bar there's no real way to tell what the exact difference is, but I guarantee it isn't 9-10lbs per wheel.

The closest weight difference I could find was a set of later 16x7.5 5-spoke base wheels from a '99-04 (wheel = 17.55lbs tire = 26lbs) and a 17x8 Bullitt style wheel from the '01-'04 (wheel = 22lbs tire = 26lbs). Now, we all know that the Bullitt wheels are probably the heaviest 17x8 factory wheel Ford built, considering the '99-'00 GT 17x8 wheels are amongst the lightest 17x8 wheel at 17lbs, I figure the Tri-Bar is somewhere in the middle.

So...where does that put us? Even if the Tri-Bar weighs as much as the Bullitt (which I'm sure it does not) that's a difference of no more than 5.5lbs per wheel....and more than likely less than that. A far cry from 10lbs per wheel and 40lbs over all.

Feel free to check my sources....

...and sorry, the navy lettering on the DarkFog back drop was just too hard on the eyes.

As far as the leather seats go, I see you're quoting the shipping weight in your example. You do realize that encompasses the plastic the seats are wrapped in, the packaging material and the weight of the boxes themselves, huh? The actual content weight itself a measurably lighter.

Equally equipped, a SN Mustang weighs 150lbs more than a Fox Body GT. And the Fox body has a reputation for being light. The extras add up quick in a car.

The Fox body has more chassis flex and s***ty brakes so it pays a price for its lightness.

A stock fully-optioned GT coupe with a T5 weighs 3400lb with a full tank of gas. An AODE version weighs 20lb more. I've lightened mine by 92lb so it's down to about 3330lb with a full tank. Compare that to an S197 GT coupe which weighs in at 3510lb.

The new 2010 Mustang GT weighs in at 3590lb so it's even heavier than the current GT and 260lb heavier than mine (now that mine's 92lb lighter than stock (see Weight Reduction).
Even with that level of weight reduction, there's so much more weight that I could remove and still retain the AC and other creature comforts.

Thats what I'm going for. Weight reduction without losing all the nice features of the car like AC. Im kinda surprised that the 05+ are the ones who weigh the most, Although I guess it makes sense.

Have any of you drove an '05+?

They are nice cars. I will take the added weight for the extra amenities. Those things make big power for 281 CI's with just a few simple modifications and drive like stock. They put out way more power than the same level of "streetability" than a 302 H/C/I intake car ever will, but that is another story.

Of course, they could throw in some titanium parts (exhaust) and aluminum frame like a Zo6, but you got to pay for it. It is all a balance from the manufacturer.
