I have been trying to order my wife a White 05 GT with Packages 18G (IUP) and 68R (Red Leather) and have not had a good feeling about the dealership for a little while. They know my vehicle history (4 Mustangs in the past 4 years - all brand new) and I think they are thinking I will accept the long wait they have quoted me in orderint this vehicle. It too forever to get them to finally order the car and they called me today and said that the IUP is on hold for right now and that I will have to wait to order the car. In my opinion, the car can still be ordered - just will take a while right? Has anyone heard of this backorder or are they just jerking my chain?

BTW, the general manager sold his car (a 90's Corvette) on the same lot and had it as the most prominent vehicle on the lot while the Mustangs were in the back of the lot. He wanted his to seel faster so he did this. Isn't that a load of crap. If I find out they have jerked me around for the past 2 months in trying to order this vehicle then I WILL talk to the owner AND will NEVER return to that lot. They have no monopoly on Mustangs.

Right now, I am pretty pissed because I am pretty sure they are jerking me around. Another dealership also said that they are not producing the GT's for another month. He said all the ones coming off the line right now are the V6's. Can anyone confirm this as well?

The IUP is on what is called a "Materials Hold".

What this means is taht Ford is short of the parts to make the IUP.

The reason is that in planning production Ford guessed that 40% of customers would want the IUP.

Turns out far more people want the IUP than Ford thought. Ford recently upped production of the IUP to 50%, but that's all they can do right now.

Dealers are limited to ordering 50% of their '05 stangs with the IUP. That is if in October your dealer orders 20, 2005 Stangs, Ford will only accept that order if 10 or less of them have the IUP option. If your dealer has already ordered this month's cars with 50% or greater IUPs he can't order any more until next month.

So if you want IUP, order your Stang with it, but you will have to wait longer as the dealer may not be able to place the order for some time. The alternative is to find another dealer who hasn't used up his IUP quota yet.

I remember Ford used the same story two years ago, with the then-new IUP for the '03 Mustangs was difficult to get.
