jacking engine up by the oil pan

hi i am changing my motor mounts, i put a 2x4 under my oil pan and started jackin it up but the oil pan started flexing some, is this normal? im guessing im doing it right (first time) what should i do, im using the oil pan section thats closer to the back of the car, am i suposed to be using the part thats closer to the front?

You should not be flexing the pan, make sure you dont destroy it. You have the bolts all the way out? Maybe you need to take the tranny mount loose too. Its a good idea to replace it anyway when doing motor mounts.

uhmmm, don't jack on the oil pan would be a good place to start. lol I used a cherry picker and picked the engine up from the top so i didn't damage the pan.

yeha i bent my pan jacking on it to try to ge the motor off.. I worked once and when i tried again i heard a cracking sound....So jack somewhere else so you dont destroy your pan.

Get a picker, make life easier.

I jacked mine up by the front sump of the pan when I installed my longtubes, block of wood between the pan and jack...no problems at all, wouldnt try it on the rear sump though

I took the transmission out of my car, i supported the engine on the oil pan w/a bottle jack and block of wood. It seems to be working fine for me even though i've had it jacked up for about a month.

Don't Do It!

I ruined mine that way. Put a big dent in it. OUCH!! Good excuse to go out and get that deep sump Moroso though!

but cherry pickers arent readily available for most people. Anyways where would you tie the chain to on the engine?

I put a board under the thick side of the harmonic balencer and jacked it up. worked fine... just my two cents
