I have to admit that after watching racing today for about 8 hours, I expected a half-effort, slow & sloppy NASCAR event at Infineon. I was delighted and had butt-pucker the last 30 laps of the race.

Juan's previous road experience assisted in the win, I will admit, but being a newbie to this discipline and the car set-up, yet having the balls to ignore his pit chief's continual warnings and threats to conserve gas and go easy, while pushing as he did, was beyond my expectations and left me with a big smile. I even found myself having a small clapping event in my bedroom for him.

Nice performance and first win for Juan.

I highly doubt the majority of the other Nascar driver's like that guy. He has a bad tendency of wiping multiple driver's out each race.

I don't like him that much either. But, then again I wasn't posting a popularity pole.

He is an aggressive rookie and will tone it down in time and with a few off-track back-smacks from the veterans, no doubt. Hell, he isn't as bad as Paul Tracy.

Although I am a Tony Stewart fan, I can also acknowledge a good race driven hard and with competency.

If Juan wants to make it in NASCAR he needs to learn ENGLISH FOR GODS SAKE!!! He couldn't even plug his own sponsors because the English language owned him. Three times in his post-race interview he said "herpes" instead of "hairpins" or some chit like that...

I only got to watch the first 20 laps... At least he got a win so that he can focus on his main job or wrecking the field for the remainder of the season.

LOL - Come on guys. How soon we forget that Dale Earnhardt was the master of the shove and run and was dubbed "The Intimidator" (which he learned from his pop, Ralph, who was also known for his aggressive, forceful driving).

So, it is okay for old school hicks to do it, but not a newbie Latino?

It's going to be a hard sell to make that sit well with this Lady.

It'd be fine and dandy if it was Juan's driving ability which won the race yesterday. However, it wasn't his ability driving ability at all but the teams strategy that won the race for him. Robby Gordon owned that race all day long and would have put JP to shame if they we're back to back at the end of the race. JP did try to bump Jimmy Johnson out of the way and it was funny when Jimmy drove right into the side of JP on the next corner. Unlike Scott Pruett in the Busch race in Mexico City the Nascar regulars have no problem in bumping JP back. The funny part is those were the only laps JP has led all year. Good thing he has Watkins Glenn to look forward too.

In NASCAR events, held on road courses in particular, pit strategy and playing the statistical probabilities is a huge factor in who wins: no matter WHOM the driver is. Bumping is part of the game. If the other driver's don't like it, they can get out of the kitchen and go to the tight azs element of GrandAm racing which has driver behavior & response in a sling as tight as NASCAR's body template. Heck - it is only a matter or time before rough driving is penalized as quick as the GrandAm series. Bump - Radio call from official for a next pass love session hold in the pit - then restart at the end of the pack. Immediate ramification versus delayed consequence will either clean it up or keep it status quo.

The other elements that factor in are driver capacity & skill, car set-up and then unforeseen events like wrecks & engine loss. So, at the very end of any race it is a total crap shoot and we all tend to weigh in with comments slated to how we wished it would have turned out or how it should be. Meh - IT IS WHAT IT IS.

Boris Seid is a master road warrior, but even his roll of the dice hedged him off the win. I don't have the statistic off the top of my head, but at Infineon I believe there have only been 2 or three repeat winners. Everyone else has a win because of the statistical probabilities and the roll of the dice versus track familiarity.

No matter to me I simply found Juan's rebel dissent against listening to his pit chief versus Kevin Harvick's but-kissing pit chief compliance hold-back driving was great to watch.

I myself would rather have somebody win the race based on just that, racing, instead of passing people in the pits. After all, the sport is called racing, but I guess that's part of the territory.

One of the problems I have with Nascar road racing is whenever there is a problem on the track a full course yellow is flown because Nascar doesn't utilize a local yellow like a proper road racing sanctioning body would. Of course then you'd end up with an F1 style race where Robby Gordon and Jamie McMurray would have been on another planet compared to the rest of the field.

I was hoping the Boris could pull it off and that he and the Said Heads could celebrate. Guess he'll have to wait for Watkins Glenn, but hopefully he'll get enough sponsership money to show up at a few other events. At least Scott Pruett wasn't there this weekend, I'm sure he and JP would have got into it after JP's move in Mexico City. Nothing like purposefully wrecking your teammate for the win.

I'm still debating whether I'm going to get tickets to the Detroit Belle Island Grand Prix this year during the labor day weekend. I'd really like to see the American LeMans series cars running around the Belle Isle track. The IRL cars might be okay depending on how much they wreck.

Well in this we agree km, I have a fondness for the GrandAm and Lemans series events. It reminds me of the acquiescence surrounding what STOCK car IS and what it used to be. Old School was - Go to the dealer, buy a track capable and sanctioned car, keep it STOCK (with minor "safety modifications") and run the hell out of it. Now - design the "car" before the "stock" and then back-in the engineering to placate the rules that retain the terminology "stock". Okie Dokie. LOL

This contorted, metamorphic vehicle that we see now in NASCAR is anything what it was back in the day. Last time I looked I was not able to go to my local Chevy dealer and pick up a RWD Impala-SS with a R07 small-block V-8 racing engine. Sad thing is that they have developed the "Car" before the "Stock". hahahahahaha

This new Impala SS COT car has been designed by engineers to take full advantage of the downforce and aerodynamic specifications required by NASCAR and they have hedged the design to offset the rules inplace to "make it fair". Uh-huh.

My pop would have termed this "sand bagging a design for an ace in the hole".

Kevin Bayless, GM Racing oval track chassis/aero program manager:

"Although the Car of Tomorrow is highly regulated, it's not a spec race car,". "As a manufacturer, Chevrolet was able to define many of the details that separate the Impala SS from our competitors' cars. The headlights, grille, portions of the hood, and the tail were areas where GM Racing was able to incorporate Impala SS styling cues and brand identity. These areas are now fixed as part of the NASCAR Impala SS package."

it's true that RObby owned that race and a damn shame he didn't win it

But, fuel mileage and pit strategy is part of the game. In the end, JPM won. Period. Congrats to him

as far as his english, he's just as hard to understand as Wahd Buhton

That didn't really come out the way I meant it

You know......... in the completely non homo rugged kinda way

Also

I've seen JPM in plenty of interviews and he speaks great English..........but yeah
he should definitely learn how to pronounce his sponsors.

I caught about 20mins of the Daytona prototype race and they were going at it pretty good.

Confident men speak non-homo truth. Pleased to see someone can reason through an objective uncongnitive desonance formed reality.
