That's right boys and girls, at the July 30th race we will be giving the green light to the Drag Radial class!

Class Discription
Class Description:
Drag Radial is a heads-up class reserved for “Street Appearing” vehicles. Legal combinations include the use of a single power adder such as nitrous oxide, supercharger or turbocharger. Suspension components must all remain in stock locations. Aftermarket control arms / springs are allowed. No frame rail modifications are allowed. No coil over shocks permitted. Sway bars may be removed or added. Rear tire size is limited to 27” x 9” or smaller DOT Drag Radial tire only. No standard radial tires will be allowed. Tread width must not exceed 9” as measured at the tire.

Basically the target size for this class is a 235/60-15 drag radial, both BFG and Nitto make their drag radials in this size and Nitto makes class legal tires for 16" and 17" wheels as well.

You've got a whole month to get a set of legal tires and get some test and tune time. There will be at minimum plaques for first and 2nd place, even if I have to go out and buy them myself, and probably a small cash prize as well.

Hope to see lots of people out there trying to make the small tire work!

supposedly Terry allready put his boot to the chungsters bootay, we'll see if he can drum up a couple cars.

I did find out about a couple more cars that are aimed at this class, don't know if either one will be there on the 30th though.

i'll prob make it as well if i can get my pos dialed in. now it will be harder tho cause the only job i have now is laying on the couch :D but the sad thing is i get paid more to lay on the couch then i did working :shrug: i beleive i have 275/45/17's? are these ok to run in this race? peace

unfortunetly no, the 275's are rated at 10.2" tread width by BFG (nitto may be slightly different but I can't find a number from them) which would put it outside the rules for this class. Nitto does make a 245/45-17 which would be class legal and their may be comparable tires from BFG and M&H if you want to stick to a 17" tire.

Now before people go getting all in a huff and asking why such a small tire I'm going to explain it (again)...

The whole premise of this class is to be an entry level class. If we were to allow larger tires I really think the class would get out of hand pretty quickly. Keep in mind that there are cars in PSCA wild street who are currently running in the 8's on a 275/60-15 which is about the same width as your current tire.

Just an FYI for all you out there who may be interested...

I have heard that a certian Sonic Blue '03 Cobra is planning to show everyone what can be done on the small tires come the 30th...Should make for some interesting racing ;)

man, this is a bit depressing I thought this was the class everyone was waiting for?

Did the thought of racing the blue cobra get everyone skeered or are y'all just trying to keep your cards close to your vest?

I realise it's still most of a month away but I had really hoped for more enthusiasm.

Is the thought of actually having to buy a set of tires that big of a deal?

Just a thought !! How about having a group purchase organized for the legal tire to save everyone money ?

eric what about the new Mickey thompson drag radials or is that the m&h that you refered to just curious the only way I will race in this class (right now) if I put some happy gas to the 90 since mid 14s is a joke. have nothing but turds right now so next year will be my goal to get something put together that can be competitive going to have to bring a very large stick since the coil overs limit me on class hope to have the day off this time

Here is a list of tires I'm sure will be legal:

BFG Drag Radial size 235/60-15 or 245/30-18
Nitto 555R size 245/50-16 or 245/45-17
M/T ET-Street Radial size 235/60-15

M&H doesn't currently make a tire that will fit the class. there may be others but based on the MFG data sheets this is what I can find.

If you have a tire that you think may fit the class here is the procedure you can use to check:

Make or find a puddle of water.
Set your tire pressure to 15psi.
Roll through the puddle.
Measure the width of the track left behind.
If you are less than or equal too 9" wide you're good to go, if not then you will need to find something smaller.

I am going to double check with Terry on the pressure to be used for measuring tread width, and will post here if I am mistaken.

I actually called M/T about this today but because there tires are so new and still on backorder they weren't willing to do it. I couldn't get through to anyone at BFG, and honestly I just don't have time to drive this, but if anyone else wanted to pick up the ball on it I would be willing to do what I can.

Ugh! How frustrating! I would love to run the Sonic Blue 'o3 :D

If I could get the cage, and the car running by then *cough* eric *cough* I'd have no problem tossing the old stocker rims with some 245/45 555R's on her... hehe j/k eric, no rush! ;)

Anybody read the Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine for this month?? The front cover and main article was about illegal street racing and why people do it...some good info, but one particular part, on the 3rd page, was about a certain car in NY/NJ area that was unbeatable for over 8 months and people thought he was running NOS along with his set up only nobody could find/locate anything...the car being an 03 CORBA....good article for those intrested...Joe you ain't been on the east coast sawing have ya?? lol :D
