I have a 1993 mustang gt has anyone ever put longer pushrods in your mustang to allow the valves to travel deeper in the combustion chamber. Is this possible? If so what pushrods have you guys have you used. Its just and ideo to do instead of a cam also I have 1.7 rocker arms.

You'd likely end up with valves that never properly closed. Try a higher ratio rocker arm instead.

That would off set your rocker arm on the valve stem. Its going to create wear issues, You want your roller fulcrim to be sitting right in the middle of your valve stem tip, longer push rod is going to push the tip of the rocker to far over...do you get what im saying? You should always use proper push rod length....you want more lift just swap cams.

thanks i have 1.7 ratio rocker arms and what is the best cam to use(stock bottom end).

What type of heads, headers, intake, etc? Any of it stock?

I will have the heads worked soon and i have a aftermarket upper, port matched lower intake,shorty headers.

How reliable do you want the car? Trying to avoid rough idle? I have an F 303 cam and its got a pretty rough idle and pulls strong above 2500. If i were you i would go with an E cam, if your going to be getting the heads worked on it should be good for some strong mid-range power. If you get the E cam and don't already have gears i would do that, a set of 3.73's. Then get your lower intake ported and you should really wake your engine up. Im no expert though...just my opinion on what i would do. Or if you don't want to do that, call up Ed curtis or Comp and get them to grind you a custom cam based on what your going to do to your engine. Good luck.

what would be safer a fcam or an ecam on my car without hitting the pistons. would they hit?

He beat me to it...


Not to steal the thread but what could be wrong if it was leaving wear marks on the tip of the valves? and everything was adjusted right, Arent the valves supposed to turn a hair each time they are opened to prevent this, what would prevent this from happening?

Either would, F cam wont hit as long as you dont have decks shaved or anything like that...oh and if you use those 1.7 rockers you would probably hit, go with 1.6's if you use the F, with the E i don't really know if it would hit with the 1.7's. I have F cam with stock bottom end. I would strongly suggest some better valve springs with either cam, just to be safe and prevent valve float. It really depends on how far your willing to go. F cam has pretty rough idle, problems with cold starts, etc.
E cam im not sure about, my friend has an e cam in his car and it pulls strong, real nice car, eats up mildly modified Cobra's/ Lt1's all the time.
The F would do the same with ported heads, just better on the top end. For a daily driver i would go with E. And i would go with long tubes, not shorties.

And...

Well the thing is it could put adverse pressure back through the pushrod onto the cam lob and cause issues there, or more strain on the rocker arm itself. You really need the roller tip to rest squarly in the center of the valve stem and the same goes for a push rod thats to short, it causes strain on the rocker/ cam lobe.

if you are running NA , I would go with a B cam .....motor for motor it will beat a E cam

with those stock valve springs i wouldnt do it. especially if you are going to be reving it high. those spings have a hard enough time as it is with stock, throwing more lift at them and your gonna float and that will make you upgrade quicker than you want, and probably cost you more.
