Ummmmm... No...in financial planning world we call it Opportunity Cost. Same idea as when people put a $4.00 Fast Food meal on a credit card, or ANYTHING on a credit card that is not a medical necessity or an emergency item and pay it off before interest accrues.

See, we "fools" apply the rule of Opportunity Cost and Instantaneous Gratification to life and buy what we want, when we want. If you purchase GAP insurance it is of no residual impact that you invert in a loan situation.

I watched my father die and mother have a major stroke and become disabled without having done many things because they were "waiting" and having "patience". So, I live for Today and Plan for tomorrow... The best of both worlds. I do not live in the economic constricts of retaining all my income for retirement, as unforseen circumstance could render me dead right now, and what the hell did I achieve from it?... NOTHING!

Live for Today, and Plan for Tomorrow.... The best of both worlds, my friend.

Oh, and last time I looked this is a deprecible consumer good. Not an appreciable asset. It would really only be considered an asset if it was paid in full, so it is a liability no matter how you look at it on the books.

Congratulations on your new car. Too bad the V6 turned out to be a lemon. I DID get what you meant with your little joke about the GT being a 'true' Mustang. I've heard it so much on this board!

Your logic is flawed.

According to you logic, the car with a mix of economy and power is the perfect car, and since the GT has much better econonmy by costing over $17K less than the Shelby, and having more power than the V6, the GT would be the perfect blend of performance, econonmy, and power between the 3 models.

You just can't say the GT is for wimps, when it has more power than the V6, and then in the next line say the V6 is perfect.

Funny how different is sounds when you take it out of context. I said that by his logic, when the cobra comes out, the GT will be for wimps.

I never said the GT is for wimps. I said MAYBE SOME PEOPLE THINK the v6 is the true perfection car in that it COULD BE SEEN as best economical and performance. 210 HP is a fast car and the higher MPG the better.

The shelby will be the true muscle car according to his logic. You see I was using someone else's logic combined with others' opinions. You need to read my post a little closer before starting a flawed argument.

Beautifully put, Jenn!!! I almost got killed in a really bad car accident three years ago. To that point in my life I realized I was always living my parents dream, not mine. Saving, not using much credit at all, not taking many risks, and def. not giving my friends and family enough priority (letting work be the most important thing to me - climbing that BS corporate ladder). There's nobody who *needs* a sports car - V6 or V8. Look around you, gas prices across the nation are over $2.00/gal. This is never going to change - only go up and up until we're paying $5.00/gal and the gap between the "have" and "have nots" drastically increases. If you just used pure financial sense in all of your purchasing decisions and ignored the human emotional element we would all be driving hybrids or the smallest most fuel efficient 4cylinder importmobiles we could find while racing them down to our nearest Gov't office and demanding more of our country's resources focus on the looming energy crisis we ALL face.

So yeah, I didn't buy my GT or my V6 or my last three sports cars under the impression that they made any kind of financial or environmental sense. I don't own a big screen TV because it made good financial sense. I don't have overpowered computers because they make financial sense (as if I need dual CPUs).

It's about living for the day and doing what makes you happy in this life. The key is not to do any of it to impress people, but doing it to satisfy yourself with what little time you have to seek that satisfaction (if there is such a thing) in this life.

In the same regard I sacrifice a lot of my time to my career. It's a catch-22. The more possessions you acquire, the more you become a slave to them. "Oh man if I lost this job how could I pay for all this stuff???".

We're only human - we're going to f**k up and do stupid stuff because that's how you learn. Life is about the adventures and the stories we leave behind while we become "suckers" in some peoples eyes. I get to tell my grandkids (if I ever live that long!) about how I drove around in a kick ass mean sounding V8 sports car while they read about ICE vehicles in their history books and look at "cars" in museums they got to through whatever mass transit system prevails. Could I *really* afford it? Did I *really* need it? Hell no but man what a ride!!!

Besides money is just a man made thing to make sure everyone gets a change to grab their piece of the pie, but the reality is that life isn't fair and we're just a bunch of animals like everything else in this world.

Ok enough ranting.

While I think the GT would be cool, the v6 is more economical overall and the most logical choice for someone who doesn't want to spend over $25,000. At the end of the day, it is a car that gets you from point A to point B. Everyone has a different preference for what the car is for them, so why not respect that and the car they choose? Maybe some people think the v6 is the "true" perfection car in that it could possibly be seen as a mix between economical and power.

In the end, a mustang is a mustang and is offered in different engine sizes and performance to meet the individual's needs and preference. Some people could care less about a v8 due to the amount of gas it guzzles and sees the v6 as a good car that is quick for a v6. If you want a "true muscle mustang" you will get the Shelby Cobra, not the GT. Now that is a true muscle car.

A hyundai will get you from point A to B also. V6 guys always want to justify their decision for going for the base model, whatever the circumstance may be. The v6 (or 4 banger) has always been the weak alternative for a true enthusiasts car. Resale and desireability have always sucked and always will. These cars have always had to fill a niche for Ford and have always been a necessary evil for sales. The argument now for buying one as a cheaper alternative is not justifiable. These are expensive cars, and are very close to a GT in price, but thats where the simalarities stop. They are for people who wanted "the coolest thing out" and couldnt wait for a GT or afford the insurance, but the price of the car cant be a factor. Resale for the lesser cars will always suck, and even worse with an auto. If someone drives a six banger and they call it a 'stang, they need to make sure they say "but its not a GT", to avoid embarassing the true enthusiasts.

Be serious, really. We never said it was a "sports car"... it's a coupe. Mustang CP.. So, please, step off your podium. I have owned both and have been happy with both. I took just as large of a hit with a 03 GT V-8 with 16,000 miles, as I did a '98 V-6 with 98,000 miles on it.

Probably Autos. The truth hurts some people.87-93 fox bodies (v8 of course), for a nice one, 5 speed of course-$3500-$15000. 4 Banger-$2000, maybe if your lucky. 96-98 Gt -$3000-6000. These are horrible turds, $6000 would be for a really nice convert (5 speed of course)- 6 Banger-lets not even go there. These 'base' models are for girls and new drivers. For a six banger to show up at a meet or a rally or anything like that is embarassing. These cars have a following (mustangs) Because they were affordable cars with v8's. They DO have to make the lesser models to keep sales up along with production numbers to justify plants, tooling, Etc. There are no special edition 6 bangers, or collectable 'base' models. This is for a reason. I have instructed anyone I know to pull the trigger on me If I ever have to succumb to the bottom of the food chain. If the Mustang was only a V8, it would be a more expensive auto do to less production numbers. Good luck with that auto "sweetie".

Nothing wrong with owning a V6 as long as you are working up to the V8.

And the GT is the "real" Mustang, the Cobra is the pinnacle but the GT is without a doubt the car people think of and relate to.

On the note of insurance.. my premium for 6 months went up $14 when switching from the V6 to the V8.
