my car now has 700 miles on it so what are the first mods to do? i'm going to get a set of 3.73's asap. what mods are the best bang for the buck that will not void the warranty?

You just asked what mods wont void warrenty but then you said you are putting in gears first thing lol. Umm say goodbye to your warrenty with that one, especially if you get a chip to recailibrate everything. If you get a speedcal, you might can get away with it .
Gears are a nice 1st mod. If your a 5 speed, definately get yourself a shifter next. Then go with a K&N filter. You could then install a midpipe and catback of your choise and should still be able to keep your warrenty in tack. Pulleys would help you a bit, Id recommend Steeda , but again beware of the dealer. Some will try and void you for pulleys. Also a TB/Plenum combo would also be a nice touch, but Im not sure how that would fair at the dealer .
Best of luck

No problem man . When you install gears you need to correct the speedo so you will have accurate miliage. Up until '98 you could simply buy little gears that fit under your dash for a few bucks to correct this. From 99 up, well we have to spend a little more money lol. To correct our speedos we have to get either a speedcal, and electronic device that intercepts the signal from the rear end and translates it to proper milage, or we can get a chip which will give us more control over everything in general.
More than likely they wont notice gears themselves. If you get a speecal you might can tuck it away to where they dont notice. If you get a chip though, once they plug in the diagnostic tools, they will know you have a chip which will void the warrenty. Some dealers might not care, most will to avoid the hassel of dealing with you and loosing money by working on your car under warrenty.

Exactly! I would ask around at your speed shop man and see if they know any dealer that would work with you. Most know someone who will cut you a break if the problem isnt directly linked to the rear end or if it was due to a bad install.
Good Luck

Gears
Exhaust
Shifter
Intake (MAF, TB, plenum)
I don't believe in the 'spray' theory - Nitrous is just a 'temporary solution for a permanent problem'...!

Gears and exhaust are your best bang. Don't mess with the shifter, unless you want problems. Those 5 speeds have enough problems without messing with an aftermarket shifter that may bend your shift forks. No HP gain either.
Also, don't mess with 3.73's...go with 4.10's. The difference in mileage and rpm is negligable, but the 4.10 is much better out of the hole. If your state doesn't do inspections, go with an offroad pipe (no cats). The combination will make you grin from ear to ear, and you won't be able to wipe the grin off your face!

exhaust. cat back, and H or X.
and ashifter. you'll be amazed how much better shifter would feel

I would try to find a dealership that will intall the gears so you can keep the waranty. or wait till you get a few more on clock. 700 miles does not really ring out the drivetrain. I think 3.73's would be as low as you can go and keep waranty which sucks because 4:10's are the way. some dealerships will work with you some won't. some people have horror stories about dealerships and some do okay. I will say in my experice you have to find someone cool and 75% of the shop managers are dicks.

my .02

gears, exhaust, plenum tb in that order. once waranty dies cams.

you can follow my foot step man

700 miles - dyno the car
1000 - take it to the track
1500 - install new shifter (tri-ax in my case)
3000 - change oil and install (LT, X-pipe, cat-back)
3200 - get stangnet license plate and sequential signal light
3500 - dyno the car again and smile
3600 - install 4.10 and new Drive shaft + DS loop and send EEC to T&J Performance)
4000 - go to 1/4 mile track and run 13.9@101.6
present - save up money for more mod

good luck chump. I learned a lot here. I remember when I used to be like "so the exhaust system comes in 3 parts? I'm confused" and post in Mustangworld Corral showed me teh way though. And now, I found that Stangnet is the place to be.

Wassup playa??? Get the 3.73's or 4.10's, then a speedcal/chip/computer reflash. The chip and reflash will both give you a little more power and adjust for your gears, where the speedcal will only adjust for gears. Warranty??? Warranties are practically useless(unless you have problems!!!) but when is the last time you had some warranty work done? 4 cars later, and never had to use it. Next, go with the K&N cone filter(cheap) install it yourself, and then exhaust. Go mid-pipe and cat-back at the same time. Oh yeah, don't forget the tri-ax!!! Awesome mod, no more throws to the back seat!
