Just got King Cobra Clutch Installed, Few ?

Hey guys and gals, just got home from getting my King Cobra Clutch installed. Went ahead and got a new flywheel as well. My question is what, if any, types of performance gains should i expect? I replaced it because my TOB was shot and that gave me an excuse to replace everything (clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, TOB, pilot bearing, pivot ball) Will i notice just harder grabs between shifts with the new clutch or will it also possibly lead a quicker car in any way? Will it help with 60' times or anything like that? I feel like a n00b asking this, but ah well, i needs to know how worthy of a mod this is

nope, the only way a clutch will make it faster is if the old one was slipping

Yes, youll notice a HUGE difference in the way it grabs. I just installed mine a week ago and it finally was broken in Wed. It used to chirp second only, not it gets tire going into FOURTH. I love this thing, good choice. And I didnt get the slightest bit of chatter during the whole breakin either. Enjoy.

Your gears might had somethin to do with that too Hopefully i'll get to experience how hard it grabs in 4-5 days. How many miles did u break it in for?

I think with the new clutch you will be able to shift more effectively so in that sense you should see some improvements at the track. Especially if you old clutch was worn.

My KC clutch chatters alot at low, low speeds in first gear. Anyone know what this might be from?

I dont know, it was in there when I bought the car a few thousand miles ago.

They probably didnt resurface the flywheel...the flywheel probably has hot spots on it and is causing that .

Agreed, they did not resurface the flywheel or they made one of the many other easily made mistakes while installing clutch. There are so many... Failure to align bellhousing, improper torquing of flywheel, not replacing everything while in there, etc, etc...

One thing about the KC clutch your leg will get stronger because that fer is hard. I have one in my 98 GT and had to drive it through rush hour chicago traffic to get it home after I bought it and thought my leg was going to shatter before I made it home.

I am used to it now, but if I drive another car with a clutch I feel like I am going to put my foot through the floor.

LOL yea the pedal is a little stiffer. I had the gears before the clutch, so those werent new to me. And yes, to the guy that has the chatter, sounds like a flywheel resurfacing problem. Thats actually why we changed my clutch. When we bought the car, the dealer put in a new clutch, but didnt resurface the flywheel, so its been chattering ever since. I broke the KC in for 500 miles before beating on it.

poor install. One reason I do not like using resurfaced flywheels is becuase I have had a few that were incorrectly resurfaced and have had to drop the tranny back down.. really not that big of a deal in a mustang, but in a FWD car it SUCKS!!!!!

So for me it's new flywheel or I don't do it.

Little OFF TOPIC question for you guys....how much "meat" is on the KC clutches vs a stock one? Ill ask the question specifically in a thread later today...but basically my new spec stg 3 clutch has less meat (thinkness between the top of the rivet and the top of the contact patch) than my 50K mile stock clutch lol. The new one has about a 1/8-1/16 on an inch of clutch...

My KC seemed to be a tiny bit thinner than a stock clutch. I did not measure it..

I know people how have said the same thing about the KC clutch
it will make chatters at low speeds.Also the KC clutches are heavier
than the stock clutch.

I have experience with all types of clutchs.....
My Stock '96 GT had the original clutch...
Then I bought this Cobra with the stock KC, Huge difference
I just put on the Centerforce DF, Seriously HOLY ****, the best "grab" i have ever felt

mine don't chatter at all. never chattered once..

But I installed it myself so I know it was done right, everything was tourqed by tourqe wrench in the right sequence and I used a new flywheel..

I have seen many guys impact gun the flywheel and presure plate onto a poorly resurfaced flywheel, then the customer blames the clutch for the chatter

I have the same experience Mike has w/ the KC clutch. I had mine installed by a local guy who is trying to build a reputation for himself. His primary focus is Audi/VWs but he jumps at the opportunity to work on any domestic, like Mustangs, Camaros etc. This is what he said to me - "I installed your clutch like I was putting it onto my wife's car" and frankly I believe him. I also had a new flywheel, throw out bearing, pilot bearing, and clutch for pivot ball installed when I did the clutch, so the pedal is smooth and fairly light... I'm sure if I had some random bum do the install then I would be having a different experience, but all in all, I'm 100% satisfied with the price/performance ratio that the KC clutch offers.
