got my new front suspension done finally. i put in strange engineering 10 way struts and some front springs from a 4 banger mustang. after put the car back on the ground the ride hight was the first thing i noticed. it now sits about 1" lower in the front. no big deal since my 47lbs battery is in the trunk, the back is lower too. i used to be able to get 4 fingers inbetween the wheel and the fender, now i can only fit 2. i first drove it around on the softest setting with the sway bar attached. smoothest ride ever. unfortunately the back is still ruff so its not that great but it helps a lot. today when i got home from work i disconnected the sway bar but left it in since i was just testing it. i set the struts to setting 2 (the second softest) and backed out the drive way. the engine had been off for about 30 minutes so it was cooling down. i hit the gas but not that hard and instantly noticed the front und lift up, especially the left side. i got my camera and took a short video (but dont know how to load it up so you can see) and did a "launch" and it lifted really well. normally when i do a half ass launch while on the street my tires squeel like im abusing them but this time all i got was a chirp of the tires as it took off. of course i didnt launch it that hard and i was on street tires but the lift is very noticable. i took it around the block a few times with out a sway bar and the struts set really soft. there was noticable body roll but nothing too bad. i was taking turns at 25mph and never once felt like i was going to loose it. one thing i didnt like was when i went back into my driveway the tire hit the fender cause the suspension is so soft. im going to set the struts to 5-6 and see how it goes with no sway bar. with such good handling with a setting of 2, i see no reason to run the sway bar with a stiffer setting. needless to say, im pulling it out to shed the weight. how much do you think that sway bar weights? probably get more lift with it gone.
one thing i should note, i have alluminum heads (40lbs off the front), battery in trunk (47lbs the front), smog pump removed (9lbs off the front). i have almost 100lbs off the front of my car so the results my be different for a person who has the extra weight still on their car.
