Pulled the T5 out to replace the clutch and pressure plate with a new King Cobra setup. Figured while it was out, I would ship the transmission down to Astro Performance in FL, after hearing good things about their work.

What is wrong with the trans? Are you having the soft parts refreshed?

I got mime fixed there. My car is still not together, so I can't tell you how it shifts. But I heard nothing but good things about Astro and the bill was easy on the pocket. My T5 would not shift in to 1st unless you were at a complete stop. Other than that it was in good shape. They couldn't believe it had 197,210 miles on it. I also have a King Cobra kit awaitng install.

I never drove the car having bought it with a bad clutch, while it was out I noticed a lot of slop in the input shaft, the coating was worn off the bearing retainer, It cluncked pretty good while rotating the input shaft back and forth, and the shifter was pretty well abused, so I figured based on a lot of what I found wrong with the car it was a good idea.

the soft parts are the non-hard parts

hard parts are gears, shafts, sliders, etc.

soft parts are sychro's, bearings, shims, clips, etc.

Since you're sending it to Astro .... are you doing the G-Force upgrade? I hear Astro has the best price/quality on them .... That's definitely what I'll do down the road.

wow, what was round trip shipping gonna set you back? What do they charge to rebuild? Their not that hard to rebuild yourself if you get the Hanlon tape and some simple tools.

Shipping to there was about $84.00 with the T5 and crate weighing in at 94 pounds. I expect to pretty much get back a factory fresh T5 with an upgrade to a steel bearing retainer. I think their labor is $150.00. To that add whatever parts and upgrades you desire.

I got a rebuilt T-5 from them a few months ago. The old tranny was completely shot. It had 192,000 on it. The shocker was the clutch was still in good shape. I put in a king cobra clutch.
Anyway the tranny is great. The best part is the free shipping.

Well the T5 was delivered to their shop today where it was torn down, cleaned, and assessed. Besides the standard bearings and ring kit, it needs a new front bearing retainer becuase the coated aluminum one scuffed so quickly, but it will get a steel one in its place. It also needs a 3-4 shift fork and a new input shaft. Plans are to reassemble it tomorrow. After that it will be back in transit home.
