Edelbrock Performer pretty much took top honors,

although I thought the part of the HP chart on gt40, cobra, and explorer was real interesting.

Those flow numbers came from the September 1996 issue of Super Ford magazine. The numbers shown for the Explorer intake are suspect for whatever reason. Later flow tests and dyno test show the Explorer flowing with a few cfm of the GT40/Cobra and making the same power.

Those of you wondering why Visceral has so much power with a stock engine...his 93 coupe is an SSP, meaning it used to be or is a patrol car. I have an 89 SSP coupe...used to be Georgia State Patrol. I'm not sure how accurate Viscerals numbers are, nor do I have numbers for mine, but just notifying the crowd that was wondering about his dyno numbers...

notice the holley or tfs r intakes are not in that test, holley is #1 efi intake

Perhaps, but he was referring to a "stock" 5.0. The holly or tfs r intakes would be major overkill, and he would probably hurt performance more than he would gain.

With the stock heads not flowing more than what, 160 cfm intake side, I would look into a tmoss ported lower intake. If you do have plans to either open up the heads more, or purchasing some better heads, I would look into the Cobra/Explorer/GT40 intake or the Trick Flow street heat. These are all great performers on the stock 5.0, and yet still have potential for a more stout combo.

From the research I have done the street heat by Trick Flow is a very good bang for buck aftermarket intake. It even seemed to out perform the track heat from Trick Flow. I had a dyno sheet on a mostly stock motor with all the intakes and the street heat was 3rd. The only better ones was the Holley and I think the Performer RPM but not by much. If your completely stock the I've heard the larger flowing intakes can hurt more than they help.

when I had a stock motor, stock exhaust..etc, the first mod I did was the Trick Flow street heat upper & lower (still have it on my car) & I definitely noticed an increase in power..I got mine for $400 brand new from a friend of mine. If you can find a good deal, I would definitely recommend it :nice:

the GT40 is a sweet intake for a stock 5.0, pricey though

That's why you look for an Explorer intake. I just bought one with the TB and good Bosch design III injectors. I'm gonna port up the lower, convert the 65mm TB to Mustang use and sell the whole intake with EGR spacer & TB & injectors all mounted up and ready to bolt on.

I just threw on a Edelbrock Performer 5.0 (ported and polished) and almost messed myself... went from running 14.7s to loosing by half a car length to a guy that runs 13.5s all day. Can't wait to get to the track for some real numbers, but it's definately got my vote!!
