Has he contacted MM about it? I wouldn't use it if it's so messed up.

he bought it off of ebay from some guy and it was supposed to be "unused". it didn't come directly from MM. probably a reason for that. glad its not mine. but the car has gone mid 1.3 sec 60' with the DS angle all f-ed up. its hilarious.

Did you contact Jack @ MM and discuss this with him? In over 20 years I've never heard of that problem with one of their K members, I've installed two on my cars and they fit perfect. The engine does sit a bit to the passenger side but that is just wierd.

Ah,,, now it makes sense... sounds like it was not a MM problem. Who knows what happens with a used part.

"its pretty funny. which is probably why it got put on ebay where he bought it from"
It IS pretty funny. That someone would buy a "supposedly unused" part, have problems with it, and then NOT consider the part was maybe not in brand-new original condition. Or not installed correctly. I've read the instructions for an MM K-member. No joke. Lots of measurements, plumb bobs, etc.

what I think is funny is people assume everything someone welds together is perfect. we had Wolfe look at it since we live by him and wanted to make sure we weren't missing anything. you know who that is, right? its installed correctly.

he bought it off ebay because it was cheap. he knew the risk. itll be alright. its a racing part, some modification may be required. and in this case that means its going to get cut apart. the point was everyone has a bad day at work, even a place you never hear bad things about. I suspect it was one that didn't pass QC and ended up going out the door and found its way on ebay. I like how everybody assumes its improper install even after I give the information that one of the best chassis guys on the planet has looked at it.

Even the best products have some failure or DOA rate.

It's more about how a company handles a bad product return than it is about making it screwed up in the first place.

Some companies really want those parts back so they can figure out who and how it got messed up in the first place.

exactly. by the same token when you buy something second hand cheap its not the manufactures problem anymore.

That's impressive. I have no problem with running 2nd hand parts that I can see/check out before hand or are rebuildable. I bought some tfs heads 2nd hand but I got to see them before hand for example. eBay just scares me. Internet pictures often don't give an accurate description and there are a lot of crooks out there.

Does it have an MM sticker on the main crossmember?

I know MM occasionally gets people really mad at them over failed or junk parts, and on further inspection, they're not MM parts at all. Some companies (e.g. that carnival-barker in a clown car Granatelli) have made quite a business our of completely ripping off part designs so well they get confused in the marketplace.

You can print the instructions for every part they (MM) have from their website.

My only problem is that your initial post leads us to believe that the part was ordered brand new from MM and was screwed up. When challenged on it, we actually find out that it was a cheap used part acquired from ebay that may not even be MM?

So, knowing this, why drag their name through the mud by saying how horrible their k-member fits?

Anyway, we assume it to be an improper install because we don't hear about things like this from MM. Ever. It isn't to say there can never be an issue (I think they are human over there) but it's extremely rare and their customer satisfaction is extremely high. So, in a k-member thread when someone spouts off what a POS their MM k-member is, people are bound to take interest.

Tracability at this point has been lost.

The part *may* have come from MM, but has also passed through at least one person's hands prior to the current owner and the purchase medium was a website well known for a good place to dump suspect parts on a stranger across the country.

I've seen MM go out of their way to make things right when part quality has been suspect. I would imagine if the original purchaser of that K-member contacted them, they would have gotten a replacement with little hassle.

ok. since it was advertized as MM and was delievered with their instructions and looks like MM that is what i assumed it was because in 15 years of seeing tube k members i have never seen another one that looks like the MM. ive never even seen a copy of an MM but i am willing to take other peoples word for it that they exsist. but now i am accused of maliciously dragging MMs name through the mud. are you ing kidding me? its called an honest mistake. i guess you have to do a DNA test on the goddam thing to prove who welded it on the jig. jesus christ.

its a k member thread. i thought it was an MM k member. we dont know for a fact who made it but its built like an MM and was advertised that way. you are assuming its not MM. at least i have layed eyes on it. people get on here assuming a bad install when they have never even seen it, even though a guy that builds some of the fastest cars on the planet says otherwise. Wolfe seemed to think it looked enough like an MM to fool him, and he doesnt make k members so its not like he has a dog in the fight. i even said it could have been one that didnt pass QC and found its way out the back door and that anyone can have a bad day. how about relax. goddam. now i remember why i dont ing post on this site. this. im done.

Holy hell you are a whiner. Let me ask you something (if your fragile psyche can handle it) if you owned a company and someone posted this about it...

i have a buddy with a Clements widget. its heavy and durable, but that thing is about the worst fitting POS ive ever seen. the engine is so far from center its stupid. when the widget is square the motor is way off. I guess every dog has its day.

... would you think that it is a fair review after finding out that it turns out that the widget is used and possibly not even yours?

Do you think that it was a responsible post given that you knew the part was at least second hand? Would you, as an outside party, having read the above post, have had any reason to believe that the part being referred to was not a brand new part?

Go take a midol and calm down. I really wasn't being a dick until now, I was just trying to point out that I thought your original post was unfair.

You may be surprised at how well good company's support their products without a receipt or second hand.
