Do you think the US is doing a pretty good job considering what we have been dealt?

I do. I think that the vastness of the disaster warrants a couple days before anything real starts to happen.

What do you guys think?

I think you're right. I seen on the MSN website news a little while ago that they were dogging the National Guard & the Red Cross for not being there when it first happened. I hate the media. There's nonstop robberies, killings, and rape going on pretty bad down there. It's chaos. They can't just expect everyone to walk into that mess and start rescuing people. They're trying to kill the people that are helping. My unit (from NC) is leaving today to go help. They are fully ARMED. I've been to MANY natural disaster relief efforts, and I've never seen anything like this. I wish I could go, but they wouldn't let me because I am currently active duty (Active Guard). Last night at the Panthers game, the Red cross was there. They took in so many donations, they had to leave, because they were full. Now, it's just a matter of getting it to them.....

The media WAS right about one thing. The only thing the National Guard is attacking is the wrath of Katrina, not the people. We're there to help them. But it's sad we have to defend ourselves to be able to do so......

It's pretty much chaos down there right now. Watching the news and hearing the stories of the people down there makes me really sad. Those damn liberals are blamming the president. WTF is up with that. Try rescuing people who are shooting at the buses and looting. I know that's not the case in all places, but Bush has a point. He's down there now though, checking out the damage.

Anyone know a redcross site where I can donate money?

Yupp one of my good buddies units just got sent down there today for 2 months +.

Some of those people down there need shot for the way they act. Why would you attack people trying to help you?

On the radio they were saying that those down there to help were being authorized to shoot to kill if they met resistance...

It's really bad down there I really feel sorry for the kids having to live throught this . I really wish people would stop blaming the Pres. he has no authority on how much and how fast money is released, that belongs to Congress. I really hope they can restore law&order promply to help the good people out.

My friend who is a sheriff is goinng and my emt instructor who is in the central texas disaster team should have left today. Some of us in the emt class asked if we cold go and he said if we went we probably would drop out of the class when we got back and wouldent want to be an emt. He said it's so much worse than they show on tv.

Good. If they decide to act like animals then treat them as such... I do believe that the "good" people that are truely caught up in this unfortunate situation need and deserve all the help they can get, and if some low life's stand in the way of getting aid to those that need it just get rid of them and move on, they are running out of time down there.

I can't believe all the stuff that's happened the last 6 years have all been under Bush. Guy can't catch a break (Trade Center Towers, A War, Space Shuttle explodes, Al Queda, Fuel, Several Hurricanes, Fuel prices, the Economy, etc.). Just amazing.

Things have gotten so much worse in just the last few years I can't believe it. I'm only 18 and I already remember when we didn't have to worry about things like this.

I just wanted to add that, last night while I was at the Panther's game (doing a NG display), a girl walked up to me with her brother. She was crying. I didn't know what words would be an appropiate approach ... so i waited a couple of seconds. She said "Thanks". I said "For what?" She said "For saving me". "What do you mean?", I asked. She said that she had been rescued the night before by some National Guard soldiers in Louisiana. She was down there to go to school & had just moved in on Saturday. Her & her family came on up to the game to see the man play, Jake Delhomme (from down there).

It's times like that....that justifies & makes me proud of my job.... I wish I could go this time...

I think the response took way too long, CNN,Fox,and news people were there before, during and after the storm and they were being re-supplied with food water and gas, so theres no reason the military couldnt Blackhawk some supply drops, it seems that a lack of a coordinated response was to blame for the delay,hindsight being 20-20,we now see that this country under this administration has made wrong decisions time and again,I think the re-building of Iraq and the B.S reasons to go there in the first place and now the New Orleans disaster are too much and going to stretch this countrys ability to deal with its own problems here at home, I applaud the Guard and all the boots on the ground and if it were me I would be locked and loaded for any a- hole that shot at me as I was trying to save these helpless Americans(not refugees). The government under Bush, shot down the 14 billion needed to secure the Louisiana coast against such a disaster,to pay for a war against a country that didnt have anything to do with 9-11, not to mention in a time of war this moron cuts taxes for mega rich corporations and indivduals, in my opinion Bush is a F***k up as a president,Id rather have a president who gets a BJ from some bimbo, then the sorry unconnected, excuse for a president that was selected.http://forums.stangnet.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=38028&stc=1

I don't think I remember any guys on this 94-95 forum that were from there correct me if I'm wrong.

I just had a friend who just got his whole family back up here where I live he had just moved back to his home town of new orleans a few months ago. Now after moving all his stuff to his upstairs and bringin his family and pets up here he has recieved news that there are looters living in his house and also the other houses in his neighborhood.

What a shame. That would really suck.

I think I would go back & finish off the house. (if the house was destroyed from the hurricane anyhow) I know it still had to be a weird feeling having someone staying in his house. It would probably piss me off pretty bad....

I feel the same way, and I am a registered Republican, as well as a veteran. #1 we should have never gone to Iraq. #2 if we went anyway, we should have pulled every member of the United States Military out as soon as the active government was taken down. After all, wasn't that the point in going? Think about how much money it is going to cost to rebuild New Orleans. Now think about how much it will cost to rebuild an entire country, which is what we as American taxpayers are paying for in Iraq. It's rediculous.
