What's the maximum range we'll get on our keyless entry remotes?

Mine's not reaching very far right now, (sometimes only less than ten feet), and I was going to purchase a new one on eBay, but thought it could be just that they're not supposed to have a greater range then that...

How far can you guys go from your car and still use it? Also, when I pulled on my handles while my doors are locked, my dome light does not come on... Does that mean it's not factory installed? Thanks!

I get about 50ft line-of-sight on average from mine. The first thing I would check on yours is the transmitter's battery. Plus, I think if you are in a heavy populated area you get less range because of all of the interference from everything else electronic.

My dome light comes on if I pull on the door handles and it is locked.

I just replaced the batteries a few months ago... Hell, the ones that came with it when I bought the car lasted longer...

I'll give it a shot. I believe Wal-Mart gave me their crappy ass brand batteries before. I'll pick up some Energizers from work tomorrow I suppose. Thanks!

put it under your chin when you press the button and it will work from farther away.

these aren't like the advanced systems in todays cars so the minimum range we see, including me, is normal of a 10+ year old car. pretty crappy if u ask me.

It isn't so much the chin as the fact that your body can work as an antenna. An streached out arm with the remote close to the body helps. GOOD BATTERIES ARE A MUST THOUGH.

I got some of the energizer batteries today, and it made a world of difference... I can even use the transmitter from inside my apartment. Fabulous!

I like the idea of holding it under your chin... I have got to give that a try!

Thanks guys!
