I bought a lakewood scattershield which I plan to install with the 302 I am building, this will be bolted up to a T5

3 questions,

1. Can these scattershields be used with the stock clutch fork? or is a special clutchfork needed that is longer?

2. As far as the installation goes, I know it is necessary to center the bell with the correct offset dowels. Do these dowels come with the bellhousing or are they purchased separately; how will I know which dowels to buy?

3. When is the best time to install the bell housing? The motor is on a stand right now, Should I install this right before the motor goes in the car? I am assuming I will have to remove the clutch and pressure plate to do this in order to securely mount the dial indicator?

#1. You can use the stock fork, but it's not ideal. It puts the cable on a little bit of a bind. It's better to have the long fork but I ran with a stock fork for years without problems.

#2. You have to buy the offset dowels separately if you need them. Chances are though, you won't need them. Everyone I've ever installed and checked was within spec.

#3 You can check the bell alignment with the engine out of the car. Install the bell while it's on the hook and then set it down on blocks. That way if you need to make a change you don't have to pull the engine. Plus it's easier to see what you're doing.

#4 Also now is the time to try on your headers with the bell to make sure they clear. (If you're using longtubes) Chances are, you'll need to grind it down right by the starter flange for clearance. It's much easier to clearance it outside the engine bay.
