Leak problem on new tranny

I got a slow seeping leak that leaves about 3-4 tablespoons under my car over night. At $7.00 a quart that's an expensive leak, lol. I located the leak to be at the base of the tranny oil dipstick tube since it's not completely seated on the O ring i guess. Since i can't push it further down due to its bracket being bolted down w/ the top passenger bellhousing bolt, i used some gasket sealer since it shouldn’t really be under pressure and it's a slow seeping.

Question: will this maintain a seal exposed to tranny heat?

There is some high temp RTV you can buy but why not get a new o-ring to see if it will seal?

I used black RTV on my 91LX to seal the trany level tube on the AOD trany. Been like that for a year and that's how most of my friend seal up their C4's on their drag cars.

ha, this makes me feel better. But i just put it around the base with it in, so it's not the best method, not a very pretty job either

It has a brand new O ring on it, the problem is that once i installed the tranny it sat in there fine from what i saw, but appearently it needed to be seated further down. The problem is now that its braket that holds it in place it held down by the hardest to get at bolt on the tranny. I'd need to drop the crossmember and tilt the engine on its mounts just to loosen the braket enough to push the tube in further and seat the O ring fully. We'll see i guess. If this doesn't work ill go the tranny shop that built it and ask what they'd do and try that.

Yes, Black RTV will take the heat without question. That's what most mechanics use to assemble all of the standard transmissions over the years...not to mention your transmission wouldn't get hot enough to affect it anyway. Your transmission would be toast long before it saw the amount of heat it would take to degrade the RTV.

that's what i figured, half of my tube of RTV was dried so i cut it open and it's basically a contured piece of solid silicone - was kinda impressive. Better safe than sorry, ill see if i did a good application tmw by checking for a spot. The x-pipe was pretty well in the way
