hey ive noticed that im leaking some kind of fluid from my differential, it appears to be right where the cover is...any ideas? how can i fix it? how do i add more fluid? and how can i add more tranny fluid?
seriously, a repair manual is the best 'mod' you can make for your car. im not being a smarty - it really is. just for torque specs alone, it is necessary.
i would make sure the bolts on the pumpkin cover are not ready to fall off.
otherwise, i would head down to the store and get some synthetic gear lube and a new gasket (note that many folks dont use a gasket - just RTV. i personally like to use both).
if you get under the car on the drivers side where the driveshaft ends, a little more than halfway up, you will see a plug with a square hole. you can insert a 3/8 ratchet wrench male fitting into that plug (i use an extension to create access). once that is loosened, you will know that you can refill the differential after you remove, clean, seal up and reinstall the pumpkin cover (it could suck to drain it all and not be able to get the fill plug out).
repair manual will have more info and torque specs. good luck.
