Today when I was leaving the barber shop I noticed this:

What could be causing it to leak from there. It looks to be coming from where the filler neck connects to the tank itself. I planned on taking a 1.5 hour trip to go to my friends house and possibly the track, but it doesnt look like that is going to happen now. Is it even safe to drive the car at all? Should I siphon the gas that is in there (3/4 tank) before my car blows up in this sunny Cali weather?

That rubber grommet on your filler neck is your filler neck gasket and is around $17 from Ford. If you know how to drop your tank it is simple to install. Your filler neck slides right out and you just replace the gasket.
If you never dropped it before, now would be a great time to upgrade your pump if you haven't already.
Depends on how bad you are leaking but its tech not safe to drive. I drove around for a week smelling gas and just thought it was overspill that I was smelling or something transfered to my mat from the ground. I was filling up at Fun Ford last year and this lady approached me at the pump saying "Uhmmm, my son noticed that your car is leaking out all of the gas you are putting in?...."
I drove a 100 miles back home filling up a 1/4 tank only. If you keep the level under around ~5-8 gallons you are cool. I don't know how that's gonna jive in Cali Freeway conditions, better take a 5 gallon tank with you also? :D

What he said...

They get old and cracked after time.. It's an easy fix.. Be sure to have as empty of a tank as possible.

Be sure to put some grease on the inside of the grommet to help with the install of the filler neck.. I did mine when I had the tank dropped for the fuel system.. I noticed the cracks in the gasket..
