on wensday night our 05 escape bit the dust. trans went by by. in stead of letting my car sit outside int he rain all week. i pulled it in the garage. tonight i went to move it out of the garage. a nice sized puttle of oil was under my engine. and many little drops from where i backed it out and put it where it normaly parks i check the oil and its about a quart low i think the gasket for my oil pan has bit the dust.

anyways. where should i start to look for the leak. i degresed the underside of the engine and put it back in the garage. after school 2 marrow im going to see if i can find where it is coming from. is there anyway to put a new oil pan gasket on my mustang without pulling the engine?

thanks for any info

make sure its not coming from the drain plug, and make sure th pan bolts arent just loose.

i drove my towncar on a bad leak for 2 years, i just kept topping it up with oil. then it got real bad and i drove it anyway. still ran when i had it stuffed into the weeds.

yeah, usually the drain plugs start leaking after the little seal they have goes out. just take it to a grease monkey and they'll replace it for free (or like $1). when i worked there we'd just put the vacum to the oil feed and turn it on and it'd suspend the oil just enough for us to pull the old plug out and throw a new one in.

Check the oil filter too. Just last weekend I drove 30 miles in my '04 and all but 1 quart of oil drained out. While I was driving. My car had NEVER leaked before. It started ticking which is what alerted me to the problem. I got under my car and found a hole in my oil filter. Theres a nice huge oil slick under my car too. The bottom of my car is covered in oil and it sprayed all over my engine too. Good thing I had Mobil 1 synthetic oil in there. When I checked my oil and nothing was on the dipstick I almost puked.

Mobil 1 ftw.
