haul it away and find another one.

Exactly....I'm not sure I understand this current craze of obtaining completely rusted out cars from junkyards and fields and restoring them. It costs a lot more money to get these cars presentable than it would to start with a solid car to begin with, unless you can do EVERYTHING yourself including the paint and have the patience to keep with it.

Depending on the original drivetrain, and condition of the frame rails, it MIGHT be worth saving.
Like 2baV8 said, strip the car down and eliminate any rust on the body.

Here's a pic of my roommate with his '66. It's a normal C-code hardtop that needs new floors and some work to the rear quarters. We're gonna do a ground up on it. To most people this wouldn't be worth the money, but to my rommate it's gonna be well worth it just to get the experience. Even I'm learning a lot with this car. The entire process should be fun.

made sure i had at least 20 grand in the bank.
20 grand... depends on the type of restoration you do, engine, suspesion etc.

I would start of with removing rust, fixing body damage. Then go with the motor, then paint, the interior. But if your not worried about driving it with primer, then your good to go while you save up cash.

If your not going stock, go with the Deluxe Interior, Brushed Aluminum Looks great.

I'd call State Farm, get an agreed value policy for $20k... wait 6 weeks, cover it with gas, put a stick of dynamite in it, and blow the sucker up. Just make sure you let it burn real good so the rust looks like a result of the fire. Get the check and :spot: away.

Although I don't totally agree with the concept of bilking the insurance company, DarkBuddha's solution seems the best yet.

2bav8's idea comes in second and I imagine would accomplish the same thing, once you've move that car from the spot it's in, you'll have removed all the rust.

I doubt I'd give more than $100 for that car.

What kind of shape is the green 68 in the background in? If you could get both you might have a good start.

I like this trend. If someone is willing to resurrect a car from the yard GOD BLESS them. The car they save will be one more on the road and not in the furnace. The sooner they stop the rust the better. Like the saying goes “don’t crush it restore it “. :flag:

First thing I would do is ban Lookout4me for his viscious p.m.'s and ignorance directed toward me and then forget about it. I think this guy is just posting to get our goat. Oh, by the way jackass4me, I am taking English in college so that gives me the right to correct you when you spell knowledge as knowlege. Hell, a sixth grader would correct you on that. What a dip****.
