i change dmy pcv a while back (last year maybe) and when my grandpa came up the other day he noticed that when i shift from park to drive that there is a big drop in RPMs. could a wrong pcv valve cause this? such as too big of an opening causing too much sucktion?

No. The cause of a big drop off when shifting into gear is your engine has very little low end torque. It's either out of tune or it needs more base timing. Or you can just live with it.
