Have a ? about SVT, Roush, Saleen performance

Seing as i probably goofed the spelling of the Roush and saleen you can see i dont know much about them.

Whats got me wondering is I saw a 03 Roush the other day and was wondering how it differs from my 03 cobra. At a quick glance i noticed side exhaust and BIG disk brakes but am curious as to the differences. I am not really conserned as to "will yours beat mine" mindset but as to the overall preformace aspects of the cars.

I assume Ford takes a GT hands it and budget bigger than my mortgage to SVT and says "have fun guys, dont enjoy your jobs to much" but soes Saleen and roush work off of GT also and if so what is done different than SVT or do they work with a Cobra and improve from there.

I know that the Mustang Saleens are all based on the SOHC 4.6 that is currently being used in the GTs...S281, S281 S/C, 281-E, and the SR. One Saleen model did however used a supercharged 351 as a power plant, but has been put away a couple of years ago. The 03 Cobra's performance is almost comparible to the 281-E... the SVT is slower by a few tenths in the quarter.. according to articles and Saleen's website...so don't quote me on that. I have seen Saleen Cobras on the net before, but I am not sure if they up the performance any, but they do put the Saleen body kit on the car. I am not sure about what Roush's cars. If I had the choice between the two on looks alone... I would go with Saleen. But being that I didn't win the lottery yet...I am happy with my 03 Cobra

this is a decent Roush link that explains the differences in the various Stage I, II & III levels of trim in their Stangs:
http://www.roushperf.com/articles/News/mweekly_superm.htm
It's a couple of years old, but the trim level classifications still pretty much apply, I think.
Basically, the only ones that would warrant serious concern from an '03-up Cobra are the Stage III's, and that would depend on aftermarket upgrades, etc. applied to each.

Saleen adds their suspension kit as well as their body kits. Some interior trim upgrades as well. I believe they made 10 cobras into Saleens. Roush also has made a few 03 Cobra Roushes.

Best of both worlds.

Yes, as well as saleen, so does Roush add suspension, interior, body to the stock GT platform, obviously including the engine mods

Majority of the Saleen and Roush cars are based on the GT platform.

For example a S-281 and Stage 1 are just a dressed up GT no more performance.

Saleen made 10 Cobra's for 03 and there is a internal corporate car that I heard of. There was a guy on E-bay not long ago tryin to get 40K for his. It had something like 1,500 miles on it. I would like to own one. Even though it (Saleen/Cobra) is about 10k more than a stock Cobra, it will probably hold it's value better than a Cobra alone. Hmmm. Damn I want one. Talk about the best of both worlds.

You can get a roush or saleen built from a cobra. I've seen them both and numbers vary from year to year on the number produced. Aside from the obvious, the saleen 351 r-code and the S281E are the bad boys from Saleen, aside from the S7, which isn't a mustang by any means.

The roush's look better than the saleen to me, but they all look gorgeous.

I just saw a Saleen Cobra and all i can say is WOW!!!!! I think the Saleen Cobra kicks the Roush. I have always had a thing for Saleens though, so it might not be a fair opinion.

Im not sure what about track times and all that when comparing the cobra to a stage III roush, but it would be a sweet race. The cobra makes a little bit more horsepower compared the roush stage III, but the roush has $1800 (shouldn't be that expensive, but its roush) worth of suspension mods including stiffer springs, bilstein shocks and struts, subframe connectors and anti roll bars. A roush may launch better. However, the roush should be heavier with the body kit, so who knows. Either way, I wouldn't care. I would love to have either of those cars. As for the saleens, I don't much about them, but again, they're sweet as hell too.

seems to me you are paying for a hopped up GT. even the S281E's and Roush Stage III's still have the GT engine, which doesn't have forged internals. They look really great but are way overpriced IMO..maybe thats why my local Saleen dealership is giving huge rebates on S281's.

Well to be honest, I'm perfectly happy with having an 03 Cobra. When you look at the Saleen, and the money they want for them, I dont see it as worth it. They are built off of a gt body for one, but mainly, when you look at the performace gains compared to money....I'd rather dump the money into my Cobra, and make it much more powerful then even the S281E Saleen, which has 445 hp and a cost around $61000 dollars. Hell, for about $5000 you can make a 03 Cobra up over 630hp.
