A little after 7 tonight, I wrecked my car. We were going to the thursday night college Bible study. We were in the left hand turning lane. AJ (my best friend at college) in his 2001 GMC Sierra, and me behind him in my then nice mustang. Me and AJ play around alot, but nothing really stupid, course now maybe it all is stupid. Anyhow, I figured we would like we always do. The road we were turning left onto was 2 lanes. Ryan had gone on ahead, so I figured AJ would get in the right lane and I would get in the left and pass AJ and just follow Ryan to our destination. Well I wasnt going to nail it because well, this thing eats gas. So I turned left, and went to pass AJ like I had planned when all in one split second, I realized AJ was in the left lane and I was in the oncoming traffic turning lane, at the same moment i looked back to see where i could get over, the rear end of my car lost grip. See, the road was slightly wet from a earlier sprinkle, and I had only gotten 4 hours of sleep the night before. So I was sluggish and it was wet. Why was I so stupid??? Well, as the rear lost grip, naturally you try to overcorrect. When it is dry I can spin it through a turn and chug along like a pro, but it was slick, and there was no coming outta this one. I went left, and then overcorrected right into the bed of AJ's Sierra. I need a new bumper, grill, right fender, hood, headlight bucket, and possibly, but hopefully not, radiator. AJ's truck bed is pretty smashed, luckily insurance will fix it, but i still feel bad about messing up his super nice truck.

So, thats the good part. The bad part, sarah (my girlfriend) flew forward, and hit my rear view mirror so hard she turned it upside down. I still picture that and its been 4 hours since it happened, and I still cant stop crying. What if my foolishness would have hurt her? What would I be then? She is becoming my life. What if.......i can barely see to type........

after it gets fixed, its sold, im not owning one of those for a long time.....a very long time. Ive got important things in my life now, no longer do i drive how i want cuz its just me, theres people that i can greatly impact. Now all Ive done is showed my immaturity. Im getting me a big slow truck next, until im matture enough to handle a real car again.

dont sell the car just yet. you learned a couple of valuable lessons with this accident, dont let it go to waste.

1: avoid driving when fatigued. if you have to, drive intelligently and conservatively.
2: know your limits, not just the cars limits(which are generally much higher than yours).
3: always know the condition of the road, and how much traction is available.
4: when traction is limited, avoid aggresive manuvers unless absolutely required.
5: pay attention to detail when driving. as you gain experience you will learn to tell just what your car is telling you about road conditions, as well as its condition.

dont let the horse win just because it threw you one time. get back in the saddle and ride it again, just be more careful, and always drive like your girlfriend or your mother is in the car(you dont want them hurt now do you?). if you are really afraid of the car, then by all means sell it and get something more sedate, just realize that you will likely always be scared of any V8 mustang you get in the future because you will remember this experience, and the fact that is scared you into selling the car.

by the way, we ALL do stupid things when driving our cars during our early years, me included. the difference is i never gave up on any car i had because i scared myself driving it. and i did some scary things with cars in my youth, like drive down a mountain road following a pick up doing better than 60mph average, then hitting the highway below and passing a string of 11 cars while doing 125mph! or driving deep into a corner, at over 50mph, that had a speed limit of 15mph, with a 2,000ft drop off if i screwed up! i learned many lessons without wrecking my station wagon or my mustang those times, and you will learn your lessons here too, if you are willing to look back and examine what happened as if you were a third party watching it happen to someone else.

If you're anything like me - sell that car and you'll always regret it.

I don't think it's the car's fault that you made a mistake. I agree with Rbohm.

I think you should keep the car and vow to be more careful. When you start to do something iffy, think first.

Good luck.

I must have missed it, but was it your 67 that you wrecked?

First, I'd recommend that you don't sell it; it seems that you're a good driver (by what you've said), and you just got into a bad situation, so it's not like the wrecked car is indicative of your driving prowess.

However, if you do plan to sell the car and you have any interesting parts you might want to sell off it first, send me a PM.

And last lesson learned: that's what you get for going to bible study. (just kidding)

Well at least you learned alot without a mojor tragedy happening. Alot people around my area have died doing the same sort of things. You and you loved one came out of this and have learned together, stick by her and you will become even closer. As for your friends, you set a real example for them what happens when you are foolish. I wouldn't sell the car and considering what you just went through, I am pretty sure you will be alot more responsible. Unless you are accociating your trauma with the vehicle and it causes you anguish.

you were trying to sell the 67? Didn't you just get it a few months ago?

(what's funny is that I, too, have thought about selling my 67 and just getting something new and comfortable with a warranty and all the creature comforts, but I'm afraid that I'm in too deep to get any real $ out of my 67 now).

Sorry to hear that man. And after all that work with the roller and the help from Ronstang. Shame to see the car go.

Good luck with your big slow truck, and congratulations for learning a BIG, important lesson on something so minor. Alot of people have to seriously hurt or kill someone to realize how important responsible driving is. You got that lesson out of the way with a little bent sheet metal.

Don´t sell the Car. It seems that you´ve learned something. We all do foolish things sometimes, and thats the only way, at least forme, we learn. Get some good tires.

I dreally don´t mean to start a war or anything, but I have seen some BFG tyres, Some other U.S. brands... Get some good tyres, like Michelin, Gooyear or Nokian. These can make a lot of difference on a wet asphalt. Sorry to misguide the post...

That doesn't look too bad. Just look at it as a reason to get some body work experience. You could get it ready for paint with basic hand tools in no time.

sorry to see the pics and to hear what happened man

I'm 19 and I got my Mustang back in December last year, and I hadn't really driven cars too much, much less rear wheel drive mustangs But anyways, long story short I did a stupid thing in front a bunch of people and I wreck some of my suspension. I was so scared of driving that car again I didn't drive it for like 3 months lol, but everyone will tell you it's a lesson learned and it is. I drive more carefully now and it's made me a better driver I think, no matter what car i'm driving.

I'd say don't sell it , but since you said you had been wanting to sell it for 2 weeks do what you would like driving is supposed to be a pleasure in my view, so drive whatever car you are comfortable with.

All the best dude. B-)

well, i got in mine and drove it the next day. Im not scared of it, that wasnt the first time a wet road has stabbed at me, that time though it actually poked me.

one of the reasons why i didn't drive my car for 3 months was cuz of the suspension being all screwed up and rims bent.
