More like a ballpark figure of 200hp for a 88' 5.0 from a town car. Not quite sure about the exact rating, but it would most likely be in the 195-205 hp range. In 91-92 they switched to the 4.6 which was a 205-215 hp rating depending on year. The 5.0 in the town car have a different cam, processor, and are speed density. The Mark VII LSC 5.0's were 225Hp rated motors in 1992.

Actually, those motors were only around 160 hp, and had the old e6 heads with a 50mm throttle body, and intake opening. My dad has one and i'm putting the e7's and my stock intake on that in the next couple weeks, definately can't hurt haha.

you guys got to be kidding. my town car only has about 200hp? man this is a sad day.if i put the E7 heads on and a stock mustang cam, will that mke up the HP difference? about the intake being on backwards, it looks exactly like the mustang setup, with the intake inlet pointing towards the passenger side.

you guys have been a great help. over on the www.torquecentral.com they dont respond for *****.

get some heads for the thing. Some aluminum race heads. Then a cam. Then an intake. Then supercharge it. Then you wont have no stinking 200 horses any more.

It's got way less than that. eric88gt is right, these cars only had about 160hp. To bring it close to Mustang specs, you're going to need the HO specific roller cam, E7TE heads, Mustang specific upper intake, 60mm throttle body and a better flowing exhaust. This should run you pretty close to the factory HO rating of 225hp.

I wouldn't try to push the horsepower levels much past 250-275 if I were you, since these engine were equipped with cast aluminum pistons compared to the forged or hypereutectics in our Mustangs. The pistons have a slight dish to them, that will lower compression a little, but not enough to really hurt power levels. Nitrous or Supercharging is definitely out unless you upgrade the slugs.

Un correct me if i am wrong but I think in a town car it has the non HO engine. I tihkn only the Mark series have the HO engine. He needs a lot more then just heads to make it a mustang engine

My 89 Crown Vic had the same 302 as the Town Car. When it started knocking at 167k, I put in a rebuilt HO longblock purchased from Advance Auto Parts. Picked up an intake set w/injectors (19#) and a TB from a junked Mustang and a computer from a Mark 7. Much nicer to drive now! Also has 3.55's w/T-Lok.

your right and the HO engine is SEFI, the reg 5.0 is EFI.(SEFI each injector fires individually)

Yes, you're somewhat correct. But the Lincoln engine does utilize the same roller block as the Mustang. Aside from the pistons, the rest of it is just a matter of swapping out the cam (converting to the 351W firing order), heads and upper intake.

SEFI and EFI in this case means the same thing. The "S" stands for sequential. Both the Crown Vic and Mustang fire in sequential order (not batch). Going with the HO camshaft (351 firing order) along with the proper computer (if he decides to stay EFI) is essentially what needs to be done to convert it over.

gearbanger_101 I hope your right, but as i see your post count, i know you've been here a while and know your stuff. does anyone know where i can find a roller cam? junkyard perhaps? and would a cam from the junk yard be any good? cuz i know some parts wear out more than others, i'm not too sure about cams. also, if i put in a roller cam, would i need to change the computer? or is it plug and play? i plan on buying a set of heads from thumper460 in the near future, are there any real suggestions(meaning wallet affordable, not, turbo/supercharge with 200 shot of nitrous, but maybe a decent head/cam combo?)

i havent really told you guys about what i'm doing with this lincoln. i'm putting the 302 into a 1984 Rx-7. from rotory to V8. i already got the rx-7 and now i have the 5.0, all i really need is a T5 tranny. i was hoping with a stock "mustang 302" that the 7 would run low 14's cuz its about 1000 LBS lighter than the mustang, and the mustang runs 14.6. then i was going to bump the power a little bit to get into the mid to low 13's. and i was thinking that thumpers heads ( http://thumperoforangepark.com/ ) and cam combo, might be able to push 12's, because he has 12 second proven head/cam combos that work for the mustang. but all in all, i dont want excessive amount of HP, cuz i want this car slightly reliable.

Don't let the post count fool ya. Some of us just like to talk.

Your RX-V8 project sounds fun. Looks like you'll have your work cut out for you. If money's going to be an issue, you may be just as well to go with a carberated set up over the EFI? Normally I'd suggest staying EFI, but since you're going from scratch, it may be a lot less hassle for you. A full EFI swap would really require a donor car to be do properly with as little hassle as possible. Doing it the way you are now may chose to be a bigger headache than anticipated. You might find yourself constantly running into little unpredictable odds and ends that you've overlooked.

Your saying that the injectors in our stangs don't fire individually?

Having played around with conversions (see sig) I can tell you, you'll be much better off in the long run if you can find a Mustang HO donor car for the swap. That way all the systems are present - motor, computer, wiring harness, etc. You can make the Lincoln motor work, but by the time you've gotten all the Mustang related parts to achieve what you want, you're gonna spend more money, and have to chase down a bunch of compatibility issues.

If I were in your shoes, I'd sell the Town Car and look for a donor 89-93 Stang.

I assume you're aware that there are a BUNCH of 5.0L and 5.7L (Chevy - ouch!) RX7's out there (even some LS1's). Have you searched the web to hook up with those guys in the forums they hang in? They can help you probably even more than we can. I've got an acquaintence here in town with a really quick/nice GenII Rx7 w/5.0L/carbed in it.

Don't you have to change the Crankshaft also?? Also isn't there a lifter guide that is in the valley on the HO engines as apposed to the non HO(Lincoln ect) engines. If i remember the screw hole will need to be drilled and tapped for the non HO engines.

squeeeg - what Gearbanger's telling you is the the tapped holes and the lifter bore height in the Lincoln block are the same as the Mustang block - same blocks. They just used a flat tappet cam and lifter in them. So you'd have to score a spyder, set of dogbonz, roller cam, roller lifters and the correct length pushrods. Crankshaft has no impact on firing order on these engines. Valve actuation order (cam) determines firing order. Computer must be matched to that also, or the injector wiring harness needs to be modded accordingly. Now you know even more why it would be better on a conversion to just start with a matched roller engine/computer/tranny.
