any of you guys ever drove the late model lincoln ls 2002- 2005 ? they seem pretty quick the small V8 overhead cam engine has power , 3700 lbs there not too heavy , they have a good track record , poor resale makes them a good buy in todays market ..... any anwers ?
I would stay away from them. We have them in the shop all the time with all sorts of wierd problems. Besides that since they have that jaguar 3.9 the parts cost alot more than they should. They look pretty good but thats about it.
I had looked at getting one once before but couldn't find one in my price range. Never did do a test drive and ended up getting an Infiniti I30, wife's car BTW.
My mom had 2 different ones she leased and never had any problems. I guess they are like the other luxury cars such as BMWs/Mercedes, etc where things start to crap out the higher the mileage gets.
She now has a Lincoln MKZ that she loves just as much. I liked the way the LS drove better as the MKZ doesn't handle as well and is wrong wheel drive.
well thanks for the input guys , jaquar motor ! wow I didnt know that , lots of repairs ! see why it pays to ask ... I quess thats why they got no resale , the big BMW's like 750 & 850 have a bad resale , the little ones hold some value , those LINCOLN LS brand new were expensive & now you cant give them away ....my son had a Lexus GS 450 they didnt make or sell many but it was a great machine fast , handled great , got wrecked insurance paid him & they didnt even want it back ,he ended up selling it for $8500 wrecked as fast as the ad came out .... gotta ask or you will never find out ....
Last one I worked on, the transmission was total crap. I think it's the 5R55N, and if it's anything like the 5R55W that is in my dad's Explorer, it's a real piece. They are good looking cars, but for the coin I'm sure you could find a better/more reliable/cheaper to fix vehicle.
That's one of those cars that I would only own under warranty because it costs too much to maintain much like Audi, BMW, Porche and any other high end manufacturer.
I've had friends go out and buy an S500 and think they were hot stuff...only to dump $5000 into it in repairs over the next year or so. $600 to change a serpentine belt! Had another friend spend $2300 on Front brakes for a C230 when they crapped the bed. Another friend spent $950 for an alternator on an M3...part only.
Get the car that car set out to beat and failed miserably at. The BMW 540i Sport. 4.4 V8 6-speed. They are a solid car that will age extreamly well compaired to other bimmers. Since they have been out since 1998 to 2003, there is pretty much one in any budget. And they are not that hard to work on yourself. I drove a DINAN tuned 540i track car with over 120,000 miles and it was as solid as my car with 30,000 miles with ZERO track time. Only thing the guy who owned it had to replace was the radiator. Other then parts wore out from track use.
