I found a kit called a long rod 306 it uses a 5.4" rod with probe forged pistons, Just wondering if its worth it to make long rod 306 compared to a standard 306. I dont want to do a 331/347 stroker because I already have what I need to suport the 306..... heads cam intake etc.

The standard kit uses a 5.09" rod

so it just uses a longer rod instead of boring out the stock 302 displacement? is that what they do? im sure it produces more torque with the longer rod/stroke. am i correct?

Actually, that is a negatory. It uses a longer rod. Stroke/bore are the same. It should give you a little more torque and better gas milage, but your results may vary. It keeps the rod at an angle closer to center, allowing it to put more power on the crank, in theory.

Check the link for more detail on the pros and cons. If it were mine, I doubt I'd bother with changing the rod length unless I were building a stroker. One line from the article - "These rods work well with numerically high gear ratios and lighter vehicles." I don't think of a vert as being a "lighter vehicle". Peak torques would likely be similar - but the short rod does a better job of low end torque; long rod excels at mid and higher rpm torque. With a heavier car, people usually choose low end torque to get the heavier car moving. I'd want more stroke/displacement for a vert. For the 5.09" rod, your "n" value is 1.69. For the long rod (5.4") "n" is 1.80. See the data in the link.

this kit is a .030 bore. So it is a 306 not a 302 cid.
