Look at FR M-6007-XB3 Crate Engine Please help

It's a good engine.
Before you slap it in, pull the heads off and take them to a machine shop for a valve job, spring pressure and bowl cleanup. Should cost you an extra $250 or so, but is well worth it.
Ford sure ain't known for their valve jobs.

Thanks for the tip on the heads.

How about the place I found it for $3000 with free shipping? 12psi should be ok on that motor without head gasket problems? That is currently what I have. Now, it could be that the carb was never really "tuned" and it might have been running lean... But twice the head gasket blew and I'm tired of ripping the head off...

My buddy owns a shop, and last year he put this engine with a gt40 intake, (heads done as i said above, he does that with most heads, especially the gt40 series) and a vortech s trim.
Car made 480rwhp no problems at all.

It's probably one of his favorite crate engines. He uses them all the time.
$3000 is a good price.

Just make sure it's the one that comes ready for a mustang, it used to come prepared for an explorer (timing cover, pan, pump), but now you can get it both ways, even certain ones come with a new flywheel.

From reading way too many hours on here I have been lead to believe that unless you have means to attain an excellent tune via dyno or personal ability, that hyper pistons can be damaged by detonation under pressure far easier and to a larger degree than forged slugs. IMO I would go a different route and in doing so attain a more boost orientated cam and as noted forged slugs. I chose forged because I knew I would eventually run a nitrous kit...spending a little extra cash on items like these leave more doors open later on.

Forged internals aren't all that necessary, and sometimes do more damage than good. When hot they expand, and can tear up the cylinder walls, i believe some guys have had problems with this on 03/04 cobras when they run at high rpms for extended periods of time.

A 302 block will normally break before a piston does. You see alot more people here that have cracked the block, than a piston.

If you screw something up, something is going to break regardless. I've seen people crank out 550rwhp on stock shortblocks with hyper pistons, but they know what they are doing.

Besides ford crate engines (again when done right) run like a car from the factory, it's tough to get that out of an engine built by someone else.

Is this a DD? race car? Street Car? or both?
That should have alot to do with how you do the block. If it's a race car and doesn't see alot of mileage, then the forged may be better. Then again if it's a race car you shouldn't even be looking at this engine you have listed.

My Capri has seen less than 10000 miles in the last 7 years... Not a DD but not an all out race car.

I agree on the comment with the cam though. B303 is not a very good cam with boost, is it? Something with more lift and less duration/overlap would be better.

The B cam isn't so great, but with a supercharged car it's not the end of the world.
Check into it, because i thought this engine was also available with other ford cams.

Oh, found this out. There is a kit that has some helpful items such as dual-sump pan, dampner, la la la... check it out:

Anything else I should get? I have a 10.5" flywheel on my old engine. Can I just use it?

50oz. balance, right?

Just look for the other version of the engine, i know for a FACT that it exists.

Comes with the flywheel, dual sump pan, dipstick, timing cover. For a foxbody mustang. I know it sounds odd, because most used to come with the explorer parts.
Try Downs ford, that's where my buddy gets them.
