Looking for a Electric Fan for my 94 GT

Hey guys..well the electric fan shorted out on my GT. where is a good place to get one? any aftermarket ones out there? or anyone have one they wanna sell?

ps. Was there ever a recall on these? ive heard there was?

There was a recall on the wires/hookups IIRC, but it was specific to a build date not just all of them.

Find a stocker they are actually a really high CFM fan setup. If your looking to better the system get a better rad. and a stock replacement fan.

Also-
you can sometimes find a rebuild kit if its just the motor of the fan. check advance/zone/O's.

As mentioned, the high speed motor was problematic - it could cause an excessive current draw.

Now I agree that the stocker is ample for most folks. But if you want to change fans for the sake of doing so:

If you don't mind a little bit of fabbing, you could go with a 3.8L Taurus fan - it will work just as good as ours with less worry of the short issue. A Viper fan or dual fan set-up are also nice alternatives.

i have a flexlite fan in my 93 with a thermostating kit it works great maybe looking one of them if you dont want to put a stock one in

J/Y fans are dirt cheap (the only one that's hard to find is a Viper fan). I'd take a J/Y 3.8L Taurus fan over most aftermarket fans anyday (I see summer ambient temps of 115*F, so my needs are likely more demanding than most folks' however).

the wires burned up ..so i think i have to replace those for sure. The motor might still be fine? the clip connectors are what seems to be damged. i will pull it off tommarow and get a better look.

If the wires "burnt up", you may have some more serious issues than just the fan motor. Did you '"short" out the fan hooking it up?, or did it go out on it's own? I guess I'm asking if you know for certain why it "Burned Up"? This may be worth looking into. Just my (2) cents!!!

When the fan motor resistance becomes too great, the high speed wire (lowest terminal as viewed from on top of the engine bay) begins to char and then melt. If this is the case, that's a good bet on what happened. You can get a new fan connector for 20 bucks or under from some resto houses (LRS, MU, FFI, et al).

Generally if it was the fan motor letting go, you will see a complimentary burn in the same terminal slot on the fan motor itself.

it went out on its own...when i was driving it i seen smoke and could smell burning plastic...so i pulled over and seen that the wires for the fan were smoking. It wasn't like a big fire...it just appered like it shorted out?

So i pulled over and shut the car off....i had to pull the battery out becuase it was still pulling juice even when the car was off i think.

i pulled it apart today...what i think happned is the motor seized up...i couldn't turn it by hand. so that must have caused it to get hot and start smoking.

Well i pulled the motor out..the plastic fan blade part was melted on and craked.
Autozone doesn't sell just the blade part but they do have the motor.

i will call ford and see how much just the fan plade part is....if they even sell just that? i hope so

e-bay has some complete cooling fans with shroud for a decent price...some have a warranty...

Bill has the right idea. You'd be much better off buying a used (Ebay, J/Y, etc) fan than trying to rebuild your old one (all that's left on yours is the shroud).
