Looking for a fox after 3 stangless years

According to my profile my last login was April 2005. Which was a few months after I sold my 96 248a GT. Well........I'm back. And I want to get a 90-93 gt vert. I am looking forone that hasn't been modded much but needs a little TLC such as a pint job, new top etc. According to Kelley Blue Book I should be looking to spend $2500 to $3k. I see some in this range and others asking over 7k for mediocre high mileage examples. I could see if it had 25k miles on it but asking 7500 for a 120k mile stag is nuts. What is a ballpark figure for a 90-93 5.0 gt vert 5spd in your experiences. I am not looking for pristine. Just not a beat up rust bucket with the interior dyed 5 colors.

i would think 4 to 5 k. but some will think lower, my area is bad for foxes, some arent.

I am in the staten island North Jersey area. This area is loaded with them. I could see 4 - 5k if no probs and good paint. But Kelley Blue Book says 3.5k for good condition. In my experiences KBB is optimistic. Rarely do you get what they say when selling a car. I am just confused at what some peopleare asking for on ebay. Some want7k and of course the listing never moves. Anyone buy or sell recently?

It's a buyers market. cars in the condition you describe are becoming few and far between and are selling for more money despite what KBB says.

Wouldn't that mean its a sellers market? Anyways. know good condition is few and far between. I am looking for something that needs a little tlc. Paint, top, etc etc. I dont mind a few mods either but dont want some old nos'd stroked beat on stang with the body panels all warped. I think 3-3.5k is fair. Agree?

$2500-$3000 doesn't buy much in the way of a 5.0 mustang, i guess it depends on what you idea of beat up or whipped is. You can find something that needs paint but its probably going to need many other things...you end up getting a pig with ear rings, if you know what I'm saying.

Flavadave - I agree. It's always better to spend a little more. Some of the prices are a tad ridiculous though. 7k for a riced out stang. No thanks. I'll just have to keep looking. I'd like to get it by spring but can be patient. I remeber selling my 96 gt which was not as desireable but in great condition and was a nice car. I was asking a few hundred below blue book private party and would get the most insane offers like 1/4th of my aasking price. Selling a stang can be tough. So thats why I dont want to over pay.

For the what you want and the money you want to spend, you are being way to picky. At this point you are gonna have to hop on whatever clean stang comes along thats in your price range.

Does it have to be a vert?

I have a 88 lx that is black, stock aod, stock motor, just 3.73's. And im below your price range, pm me if your interested.

Hmm, sounds more like a sellers market to me.

Anyway.... Around me, in the midwest it's very hard to find a rust free fox regardless of mileage for under $5k.

I would say expect to pay $4k at the least. Foxes half decent shape are definitely going up in value.

I don't think I am being picky. I do want a car that needs a little work. I guess I'll have to spend over 4.5k. It seems the 90-93's are way more desireable than the 87-89's. I like the way the interior looks on the later models. What are the major differences between 87-89's and 90 93's. I am used to sn-95's so alot of this is foreign to me.

If you are willing to drive to get one, go south. I saw 3 in the paper yesterday for around 2 to 4k here in Arkansas. One was a white one and I have met the guy. Just a nice simple low mile vert, although I think it is an auto, but it is white, and barely touched. Plus you have little worry about rust from salt if you get a one from the south.

Just a thought.

You say you want one that needs work such as paint, so why exactly does that matter? Like others are saying, these cars are going for well over blue book. My fiance is in need of another car and since her Blazer isn't worth close to what the Stang is I'm considering selling it once the paint is done, I can get enough out of it to pay cash for her a nice little car.

Book value has nothing to do with street value of a foxbody.
Honestly for a vert, i'd take a larger loan out and buy a better one from the get go.
They come apart at the seams, literally if they aren't taken care of.
IMO, you can buy a 4k vert and put 3500 into it, or you can just buy a good 7500 dollar car and be done with it. The latter being the quicker easier route.

And as someone that personally lives in NJ i know mustangs have a higher value around here.

Start by throwing the blue book out the window, Kelly never bought or sold any cars. Look and see what there is around you, if you don't like them, expand it. What you want can be found, probably nearer than you think, and your price range would get a nice driver in my area(Chicago). Just don't jump on the first one you do find, you might miss something just down the street. And soon winter will be over, the vert people will think they can get more then, imo.

Yes, I am looking to repaint but would like white or black to keep it original. Plus its alot less work if you paint the same color. Door jambs, engine bay etc. If anyone has ever been able to get above blue book on any car they sold please let me know. I have never heard of it. I followed 5 gt verts on ebay and none of them sold. Highest bid was 3k. Buying one of these cars is a long process. They come apart at the seams if not taken care of as someone mentioned. You get what you pay for. But I dont think I will be paying too much over blue book.

I wonder what I could get for my 87' GT. I have been thinking real hard as of late on getting a 03' 04' GT 'Vert and thought of possibly selling mine to get a good down payment. Fox's around my area are hard to find in good shape, most are road hard and put up wet.
