I am looking to buy a car to race at my drags. I have narrowed it down to a v8 mustang. Long term goal is to run 13.0 or slower as our street class has a maximum ET of 13 seconds.
I already have a manual tranny vehicle so I am looking for an auto. Autos win races in our win or go home format.

What mods do I need to install to run in the 13's? Will the auto tranny hold up with these mods? Obviously money isnt free so I am looking for the best bang for the buck mods. I am not a fan of FI as I have seen too many people spend way too much money when sh#t starts to blow up!! If the 99-04 model is the better platform let me know.

Thanks for you input!

Wow I had no idea they were that quick stock. What will one run with stock tires?

I have an 07 Mustang GT Coupe with Automatic transmission. Quickest I ever ran with the factory tires was 13.32 @ 102+ mph in the 1/4 mile. That was before the supercharger was installed.

How did the 03 Mach 1 compare with the 07? ie....ride, comfort, power etc.... I really like the way they look.

Is there much difference between the 06 and your 07 stang?

I found this one availble on my island.2006 Ford Mustang GT

Here is a video of mine from '07. The mods are listed in the beginning of the video. The only weight reduction was removal of the spare tire/jack and Shaker 1000 subs and amps.

With 265/40-18 MT ET Streets, LTs and O/R X, J&M LCAs, relocation brackets and with the same weight reduction as above, I've clicked off a few 13.1x passes...

Removing both sections of the back seat and the passenger seat, I've gotten 12.92 and 12.94.

Great run Kooldawg6! You killed that guy right outta the hole.

I drove an 06 yesterday and didnt realize the traction control was on the entire time. How different does the car drive WOT with TC off?

My 03 Mach 1 and 07 GT are very different. The 07 GT is more refined and comfortable. It's a bigger car that's harder to powerslide around corners, but with the supercharger I can spin the tires easily - just not as graceful when sideways. The 03 Mach 1 was rough and muscular. It had a rawness that let you know it was fast. Easy to drift sideways and could spin around gracefully like a figure skater. The Mach 1 was less comfortable, but more of a racecar, IMO. In an ideal world, I'd love to have both of them in the driveway.

2005-2009 GT's are all identical. That 06 you found in Maui would be a lot like my 07 was before I started modding it. Nice price, too, for such low miles!

The 06 was the stripped down interior...........I think they call it deluxe. Aint nothing deluxe about it! Plain plastic boring. If I am spending close to $20k I gotta have some nice interior. The shifter was even plastic.

Thanks! I've only driven with TC active while on the street, I've never used it at the track, so I couldn't tell you what the difference is Even hammering it on the street with TC active, it still feels quick! I had the stock tires back on it a couple months ago and even with the TC active, the rear tires would go up in smoke! Check around and you will find that you can get the TC disabled from the start of the car with a tune. I haven't gone that route as it's no problem to reach up and push the button when I need to

Part of my problem was my expectations. My other car is a srt/10 vipertruck with lots of mods including 4:88 gears. Its a freaken torquey beast. The throttle response is crazy sensitive. So obviously a stock stang is gonna feel way different. I need to test drive it again.

It's always best to test drive a car with no expectations. Very hard to do though.
