I have a 1971 Mustang fastback with a 302 engine. Recently it has started having a problem where it just dies. It doesnt do it all the time though sometimes it will run just fine then others it dies and won’t start up again. The first time it happened I checked and found that I didn’t have any spark so I replaced the coil and ever since it has been fine. However, it has started to die again and I don’t feel comfortable even taking it for drives knowing that at some time it might turn off. The last time it died I checked and it once again had no spark. The car has new plugs and wires, a new coil now, and a new battery. I was wondering if anybody can help me figure out this problem. As well as having the spark issue, when I am driving the car it hesitates when I give it gas. This only happens when I press hard on the pedal, if I gradually press and get it up to speed it is fine. I just adjusted the timing and that seemed to help some but it still does it. To me this sounds like I have to mess with the fuel/air mixture on the carburetor. Any help or suggestions on these two issues would be greatly appreciated.
